Rejoice As Gospel Replaces Streetz In Little Rock

Just five months after moving from 101.1 to 1380/105.5, Core Communicators Urban “Streetz 105.5” 1380 KZTS North Little Rock/105.5 K288EZ Little Rock has folded. The station flipped to Gospel “Rejoice 105.5” on Saturday, September 1. The move comes as owner Salem Media takes management of the station back from Core Communicators. The new format places the station up against Cumulus Media’s “Praise 102.5” KPZK-FM Cabot. The Streetz format received extra competition last month when General Manager Joel ‘DJ NoName’ Ratliff exited to launch “96.5 The Box” KHTE-FM.

Bradford-Ratliff Media To Launch Urban 96.5 The Box Little Rock

A new Urban will debut in Little Rock on August 1. Former “Streetz 101.1” KZTS General Manager Joel ‘DJ No Name” Ratliff Sr. and Al Bradford will begin an LMA of Crain Media Group’s 96.5 KHTE-FM England AR and launch “96.5 The Box“. Ratliff previously worked on air at KHTE-FM during its run as Urban “Hot 96.5” in the late 2000s. The new station will feature Premiere Networks’ syndicated Breakfast Club in mornings and Big Boy in afternoons. James Cain will serve as Program Director and Music Director. The company is emphasizing that it will focus on breaking local artists. Radio Sharon transfers its option to acquire 1220 WSTL and 93.7 W229AN Providence RI to Diaz Holdings. New England Christian Media will sell the stations to to Diaz for $240,000. WSTL is the originating station for Radio Sharon’s Spanish CHR “Mega 94.9” W235CN Providence. After applying earlier this month to donate Silent 1450 WBVA Bayside and 1550 WVAB Virginia Beach VA to the Multicultural Media, Telecom, and Internet Council’s MMTC Broadcasting, Birach Broadcasting will instead donate the two stations to Dr. Katrina Chase’s Believe & Achieve Family & Education Center. Lisa Fischer is exiting mornings at Cumulus AC “B98.5” KURB Little Rock AR after twelve years at the station. Fischer, who currently anchors “Mornings with Lisa and Kevin” with Kevin Idol, will exit on Friday, June 22. After purchasing 101.1 KZTS Cammack Village/Little Rock AR in March for $1.1 million and ending its LMA of 96.5 KHTE-FM England, Salem Communications is purchasing 1380 KDXE North Little Rock/105.5 K288EZ Little Rock from N C Communications for $180,000. As part of the deal, Salem will lease the station to Steve Hegwood’s Core Communications to keep the Urban “Streetz” format that was displaced off of 101.1 KZTS. That move started on Sunday, April 1. JW Broadcasting sells Conservative Talk “Newstalk 1160” WCFO Eastpoint/Atlanta GA to Atlanta Catholic Radio for $750,000. When Salem Media takes over 101.1 KZTS Cammack Village/Little Rock on Sunday, April 1 it will move the programming of Conservative Talk “96.5 The Answer” KHTE-FM England to KZTS. Salem will end its Time Brokerage Agreement to operate KHTE-FM, whose programming will revert to owner Crain Media Group. No word yet on what that company will do with the station. CHR War In Little Rock Gets Hot

iHeartMedia used the conclusion of its iHeartMedia Awards on Sunday evening to launch a new CHR in Little Rock AR. Classic Hits “Big 94.9” KHKN Maumelle flipped to CHR “Hot 94.9” at 9pm following a simulcast of the iHeart Music Awards. The move brings a second CHR to the market to compete against Cumulus Media’s “Alice 107.7” KLAL. KHKN is launching its new format with the typical 10,000 songs-in-a-row commercial free and cash giveaways. In the Fall 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings, KHKN ranked 11th among subscribing stations with a 2.6 share. KLAL was third with a 6.9.

Peter Thiele To Program KARN-FM Little Rock

Cumulus News/Talk 102.9 KARN-FM Sheridan/Little Rock AR has appointed Peter Thiele as Program Director. Educational Media Foundation is acquiring 98.5 KNBQ Central Park/Olympia WA from JOSH Broadcasting for $1 million. KNBQ began airing EMF’s “K-Love” programming earlier this year. EMF is also acquiring Classic Hits “Qixie 103.9” WQXZ Hawkinsville GA from Georgia Eagle Media for $150,000. Monte Spearman’s High Plains Radio Network was busy this week as it made three acquisitions in Arkansas. Big 94.9 Debuts In Little Rock

KHKN came out of Christmas music this morning with a format shift to Classic Hits “Big 94.9“. Now positioned as “Little Rock’s Greatest Hits”, the station is focusing on music from the 1970s and 1980s. Original Report 11/1: iHeartMedia has dropped the format of Variety Hits “94.9 Tom-FM” KHKN Maumelle/Little Rock AR and has begun stunting as “Christmas 94.9“. The “Tom-FM” identity had launched in March of 2008 on 106.7 and moved to 94.9 a year later. In the Summer 2015 Nielsen Audio ratings the station ranked 10th out of 14 listed stations in the market with a 3.3 share. With the “Tom-FM” moniker being retired we expect a new format will appear following Christmas.
