In addition to flipping Rock “99X” KTUX Shreveport LA to Classic Rock “Highway 98.9” on Monday, Townsquare Media made a similar move at 99.9 KBAT Monahans/Midland TX. No rebranding accompanied that change, but like KTUX it did come with a new morning show as Walton & Johnson replace Townsquare’s regionally syndicated Buzz Adams Morning Show. The move makes KBAT the second Classic Rock station in the market joining ICA Broadcasting’s “Classic Rock 102” KFZX Gardendale and out of competition with Brazos Communications West’s “Rock 95.1” KQRX Midland. Walton & Johnson were also added Monday at Townsquare’s “Classic Rock 96.1” KKTX-FM Kilgore/Tyler TX replacing John Boy & Billy.
Townsquare Media AC “97.9 Lite-FM” KODM Odessa/Midland TX has rebranded as “Mix 97.9“. No other changes accompanied the new name. The airstaff remains in place with Kevin Chase in mornings, Mandee Montana in middays, Program Director Leo Caro in afternoons, and John Tesh’s syndicated “Intelligence For Your Life” at night.

ICA Broadcasting has flipped AC “Mix 106.7” KCHX Midland, TX to Regional Mexican “Que Buena 106.7“. The flip happened back on October 14, but no on-air staffers lost their positions. Middayer Grace Tijerina stays with the company as Production Director, while afternoon host Keri Teegarden moves to nights at sister “Classic Rock 102.1” KFZX. The new format on KCHX features a local morning show “La Nacha y El Compa”. In addition to KCHX and KFZX, ICA Broadcasting owns “My Country 96.1” KMRK-FM, CHR “103.3 Kiss-FM” KCRS-FM, News/Talk 550 KCRS, and “CBS 7” KOSA-TV in the Midland/Odessa market.
It amazes that in 2012, there can still be times where a format change will go unnoticed and unreported anywhere for over two weeks. One such change occurred on September 13, when Brazos Communications West flipped Variety Hits “95.1 Bob-FM” KQRX Midland, TX to Active Rock “Rock 95.1“. Brazos Communications West acquired KQRX, Classic Hits “97 Gold” KMCM, and Country “Kicks 99.1” KHKX earlier this year from Townsquare Media. Townsquare then acquired Cumulus Media’s cluster as part of the 65 station swap. Brazos Communications West head Tommy Vascocu was General Partner of Encore Broadcasting, which owned the three stations from 2001 to 2006. KQRX was Modern Rock with a harder lean as “95X” during that time. Kotter, Program D...[Read More]
