The station will be fed by 100.3 KFXN-HD2. For roughly twenty years, basically as long as there’s been Modern AC, “Cities 97” KTCZ Minneapolis has been darting back and forth around the place where that format and Triple-A converge. About five years ago, it landed in a place I really liked, finding the songs in Triple-A that deserved to cross to pop, playing them in aggressive rotations, and interspersing a few songs from Pink or Bruno Mars that were compatible sonically, if not in terms of artist image. Then the pop component kept growing. Cities never relinquished its name. It was still early on a few Triple-A or Alternative titles. After 35 years paired together at Hubbard’s “1500 ESPN” KSTP St. Paul/Minneapolis, Joe Soucheray and Patrick Reusse will depart the station on September 7. Soucheray currently hosts “Garage Logic” from 1-3pm and Reusse hosts “The Ride With Reusse” from 4-6pm with the duo teamed together in-between from 3-4pm. They began hosting together on Monday Night Sports Talk in 1983. Soucheray told his listeners he will continue Garage Logic as a podcast. Also exiting the station will be Program Director Brad Lane. Lane has been with the station for 20 years starting as morning show producer before rising to Creative Director and weekend host and finally Program Director in 2011.

Dan Smith’s Endurance Broadcasting will shut down Full Service Standards 1220 KLBB Stillwater MN on March 31. The St. Paul Pioneer-Press reports that the station, which serves the eastern half of the Minneapolis/St. Paul market sold its 3.6 acre tower site to a nonprofit that plans on building senior housing on the site. Smith told the paper that, “I don’t want to do it, but it’s so difficult running an AM radio station on the fringe of a large metro. It’s been a real challenge.” He also stated he was unsuccessful in selling the license/IP.
