Positioned as “The Valley’s Max Variety”, the new format takes on Missoula Broadcasting Company’s “105.9 Jack-FM” KYJK Missoula.
Townsquare Media Hot AC “Mix 106” 105.9 KCIX Garden City/Boise ID has filled its morning opening with the addition of Billy Jenkins & Charene Herrera. Jenkins and Herrera joins KCIX from Townsquare Media Country 94.9 KYSS Missoula MT where they both hosted mornings since February 2014. Western Rockies Radio has quickly reverted two recent translator launches in Missoula MT. In March, the company launched Rock “95.3 The X” on K237CZ Missoula/KDXT-HD2 Lolo with the syndicated Billy Madison Show in mornings. That was followed on April 11 by the flip of Classic Hits “94.3 The Ride” K232CI Missoula/KDXT-HD3 Lolo to AC “94.3 Star-FM” Last week the company reversed as it relaunched The Ride on 94.3 K232CI, while the “Star-FM” AC format moved to 95.3.
Federated Media is making adjustments to Country “K105” 105.1 WQHK-FM Huntertown/Fort Wayne IN as half of its airstaff departs and its General Sales Manager demoted. As first reported by Indiana Radio Watch, morning co-host Dude Walker and afternoon host Aricka McCauley have exited WQHK-FM. Walker joined the station as night host in 1994 and moved to mornings in 1998. McCauley has hosted afternoons since 2014 after joining WQHK from CHR “U93” WNDV-FM South Bend. Morning co-hosts Dan Austin and Kylie Havens remain in place. Townsquare Media News/Talk 1290 KGVO will lose its full-powered FM simulcast next week as it adds a translator and second AM to fill the lost coverage. The former 101.5 KGVO-FM Frenchtown MT changed call letters to KAMM-FM in December and will flip to Alternative “Alt 101.5” on Thursday, February 2. KGVO will begin simulcasting on 98.3 K252FP Missoula covering Missoula proper. To help fill some of the lost coverage south of Missoula “Oldies 1240” KLYQ Hamilton MT will also begin simulcasting KGVO.
Cherry Creek Radio has relaunched CHR “106.7 Star-FM” KXDR Pinesdale/Missoula MT as “Now 106.7“. The move coincides with a slight musical shift from an Adult lean to a more Mainstream direction as the station is squeezed from Townsquare Media CHR “107.5 Zoo-FM” KENR, Missoula Broadcasting Adult CHR “U104.5” KKVU, and Eversole Media Rhythmic CHR “Wild 104.1” K281CH/KMSO-HD4.
A couple weeks ago we rounded up a number of format changes that took place under the radar. Since that report we’ve been tipped off to a number of additional changes. Shortly after Point Broadcasting closed on its acquisition of Rock 99.1 KXFM Santa Maria CA on August 31, the station dropped its format and is currently running a jockless/commercial-free version of the Rhythmic Oldies “Old School” format it operates on 104.7 KOCP Oxnard and 104.7 KQIE Redlands/Riverside and a few other stations in Southern California. Eversole Media Group has rebranded its Rhythmic CHR’s in Missoula and Kalispell MT. “Heat 104.1” K281CH/KMSO-HD4 Missoula and “Heat 97.9” 1340 KYWL Evergreen/97.9 K258BW Shelby/Kalispell have relaunched as “Wild 104“. With the relaunch comes a move to mostly syndicated programming. Local PD/Morning Host Greg ‘Air’ Jordan is out and replaced in mornings by the syndicated Big Boy. Middays remain voicetracked by Mellie Mel, while the syndicated Nessa On Air is now at night. The station is also carrying Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Explicitly Old School” at 12pm and promoting Rick Dees’ “Daily Dees” on its website.
Over the past week we have become aware of a few format changes that have taken place over recent months that have not been reported anywhere. Starting in Lubbock TX, Walker Broadcasting & Communications gave 1420 KJDL its third format of the calendar year. Originally CHR “Z98.5” paired with K253BD Lubbock, the station assumed the Alternative format and “Edge” branding from 105.7 KRBL Idalou in February. After the translator moved to 98.7 as K254CI, the format was flipped at some point in August to Classic Country “Raider 98.7“. Sheila Callahan & Friends, Inc. is swapping Silent 107.7 KMTZ Three Forks/Bozeman, MT to JLD Media for 104.1 K281BK Missoula. Roger and Nancy Anderson’s Southwest Media is converting its LMA of CHR “Hits 106” KFSZ Munds Park/Flagstaff, AZ from LKCM Radio Group into a purchase for $491,000. Operating as Great Circle Media, the buyers own five other stations in the Flagstaff market. Mark Jorgenson’s ACM Dallas is purchasing 700 KHSE Wylie and 990 KFCD Farmersville, TX in the Dallas/Fort Worth market from Barnard Dallas for $475,000. Jorgenson also is adding James Crystal Radio’s 1480 KBXD Dallas to his holdings in the market as part of his $5.5 million purchase of that company’s stations out of bankruptcy.
