The Supreme Court has upheld the Washington D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in November 2017 over its 2010 application seeking to relocate 99.7 WBHX Tuckerton NJ to 99.3 by declining to hear the case. Law 360 reports that the “rejection of the case was handed down Monday without further explanation, as is customary”. Press Communications sought to move 99.7 WBHX to 99.3, while forcing Equity Communications Rhythmic CHR “99.3 The Buzz” WZBZ Pleasantville to 99.7 via Show Cause Order. The hitch in the process was that Press’ application was predicated on the license of Atlantic City High School’s 88.9 WAJM Atlantic City being considered expired. WAJM would later enter into a consent decree with the FCC over multiple violations including the late renew...[Read More]
The FCC has designated Birach Broadcasting's 1450 WBVA Bayside and 1550 WVAB Virginia Beach for a license renewal hearing. Since Birach acquired WBVA and WVAB in 2008, both stations have been off the air most of the time as the stations lost their former facility due to vandalism in March 2008. From a term running from when Birach closed on its purchase on 4/1/08 through 11/30/17 WBVA operated for a total of 66 days from a temporary facility with 30 watts. WVAB has been on for 357 days during that same period with a 6 watt STA. The stations both applied for a new permanent facility in 2013 but their Construction Permits expired unbuilt. In hearings like this the burden of proof is on Birach to tell the commission why it should be granted renewals of its licenses. The licensee must p...[Read More]

After the run of commercial-free Christmas music, Press has flipped 99.7 WBHX Tuckerton NJ to Classic Hits utilizing the same “99.7 The Island” moniker it began using in November. Focusing on hits of the 60s and 70s, the new format places WBHX in direct competition with Greater Media’s 100.1 WJRZ Manahawkin. Ted Efaw, who had been working for Press as a newscaster and reporter, adds Program Director duties for The Island. Original Report 11/2: Press Communications has broken the simulcast of Hot AC “Fun 107.1” WWZY Long Branch/99.7 WBHX Tuckerton NJ. WBHX has flipped to “99.7 The Island” promoting “Commercial-Free Christmas Music All Season Long”. WBHX serves the southern Ocean County half of the Monmouth/Ocean market.

That is the primary reason we are no longer producing the list of all stations playing Christmas music. It is very predictable what station will play Christmas music in each market and that they will then return to their regular playlist as soon as the calendar changes to December 26. But there are still the stations that use the holiday music to clear out their previous audience and build attention for a format change after the holidays. Those are the stations we will be tracking. Completed Changes 12/28: American General Media Rhythmic CHR “Power 106.7” KAGM let go of its a...[Read More]
