The CRTC has rescinded the station licenses for Aboriginal Voices Radio’s five stations in Canada. AAA/World Music “Voices Radio” 106.5 CKAV-FM Toronto, 106.3 CKAV-FM-2 Vancouver, 88.1 CKAV-FM-3 Calgary, 89.3 CKAV-FM-4 Edmonton and Silent 95.7 CKAV-FM-9 Ottawa will be required to sign-off by the end of the day on July 25. Major Layoffs Hit Canada’s Rogers Media

Rogers Media has announced it has laid off 94 employees, making up about 2 percent of its workforce. The cuts will lead to programming changes at a few of their stations. Both The Ottawa Citizen and MetroNews Halifax report that “1310 News” CIWW Ottawa and “News 95.7” CJNI will replace their midday news programming with a simulcast of Sports talk from “Sportsnet 590” CJCL Toronto. TSN Radio Expands To Edmonton & Ottawa

Bell Media has expanded its “TSN Radio” branding to two additional Canadian markets. “Team 1200” CFGO Ottawa and “Team 1260” CFRN Edmonton have both relaunched today as “TSN 1200” and “TSN 1260” respectively. The stations join existing TSN Radio branded stations in Montreal, Toronto, and Winnipeg. TSN 1200 Ottawa features 12 hours of local programming from 6am to 6pm daily as well as play-by-play coverage of Ottawa Senators and Ottawa 67’s hockey. TSN 1260 Edmonton is local from 6am to midnight daily with ESPN Radio programming overnight. The changes leave Bell’s Team 1040/1410 Vancouver as their only Sports stations not using the TSN branding.

Rogers Launches Canadian Country Brand

In order to do so, a few swaps will be made with Corus Entertainment and Shaw Media mainly involving ownership stakes in cable television networks but one that has ramifications on the radio industry as Corus will acquire two radio stations in Ottawa: Classic Hits “Boom 99.7” CJOT and Rock “106.9 The Bear” CKQB. Astral Media will rebrand its nine “Rock Detente” French AC’s in Quebec as “Rouge FM” on Thursday, August 18. The stations are 107.3 CITE Montreal and its booster 102.7 CITE-1 Sherbrooke, 94.9 CIMF Gatineau/Ottawa, 107.5 CITF Quebec City, 96.9 CFIX Saguenay, 94.7 CHEY Maurice, 105.3 CHRD Drummondville, 99.9 CFVM Amqui, and 102.9 CJOI Rimouski. Due to our limited (non-existant) knowledge of French, we’re unable to tell yet if any other programming changes will occur with the rebrand.
