Both stations will simulcast for the short-term as the company prepares to debut a new format on 96.5 WZPN later this summer. While both stations are Class A’s the move of the Sports format to 101.1 gives it a better signal in Peoria proper. Sirius Syncope Variety 90.7 WAZU Peoria IL will flip to Urban in mid-November. WAZU currently airs a mix of local talk and music programming along with some shows syndicated by Pacifica. Owner Jeremy Styninger told the Peoria Journal-Star that the change will come as he turns over programming to former WAZU host DeMarcus ‘DJ Smooth’ Hamilton due to he needing to deal with his health following a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis last year. Scott Robbins, former co-host of the Robbins & Markley show on sister News/Talk 1470 WMBD and 101.1 KXL-FM Portland OR, until a massive heart attack in August 2015, will host an afternoon show from 4-6pm weekdays. Alpha Media has launched yet another Classic Hip-Hop “G” branded station as CHR “Energy 102.3” Morton/Peoria IL was reborn as “G102.3” at 5pm today. The syndicated Brooke & Jubal show which had been airing in afternoons on WNGY moves to mornings replacing The Kane Show. WNGY had failed to make much of an impact against the two other CHRs in the Peoria market. In the Spring 2016 ratings WNGY held just a 2.1 share of the market. Alpha Media AC “Lite Rock 107” 106.9 WSWT Peoria is promoting on-air that it will relaunch as “Mix 106.9” after Christmas. Teasing a “New Name For The New Year”, the move will see the station drop the moniker it has used since the late 1980’s as its non-Christmas music playlist has shifted closer to Hot AC. In the Spring 2014 Nielsen Audio ratings the station was tied for second with a 7.3 share, however down sharply from its market-leading 9.6 share the year before.
