The new format is positioning as “Easy Favorites” and creates a flanker for Hot AC “Coast 93.1” WMGX and Classic Hits “Rewind 100.9” WYNZ against Townsquare Media AC 94.9 WHOM. WBAE and 107.1 W296CZ Portland had been running a Talk format while WVAE (which recently changed call letters from WGIN) had been simulcasting News/Talk 560 WGAN and has now launched its 93.5 W228BE translator serving the southern portions of Portland and the Old Orchard Beach/Saco area.
Scott Lindy has departed his position as Cumulus Corporate Program Director and at Country “Kicks 101.5” WKHX Atlanta. Akal Broadcasting will purchase Brokered Indian “Desi 1250” KKDZ Seattle from Universal Media Access for $500,000. The purchase will become Akal’s second Seattle market station along with “Radio Punjab” 1560 KZIZ Pacific/Tacoma. Universal Media Access had purchased KKDZ from Disney in 2015 for the same $500,000 price. Adams Radio has sold Oldies 1500 WAKE Valparaiso IN to Marion Williams for $26,000. Binnie Media is making changes at three of its Maine properties. The Classical format of “W-Bach” 106.9 WBQX Thomaston and 96.9 W245AA Portland was dropped on Saturday. WBQX is now Classic Hits “Frank-FM“, with the “Classic Hits for Mid-Coast Maine” programming that had been on sister 105.5 WBYA Islesboro. Most of WBQX’s programming originates on 107.5 WFNK Lewiston/Portland in addition to carrying Boston Red Sox baseball and local high school sports. The FCC has deleted the license for Spanish Tropical "Zima 103.5" WZMA-LP New Britain CT after the group the station was licensed for says it has never had any association with the station. The Hispanic American Cultural Council states that Lincy Castillo and two others used their organization's name to secure the CP and license for WZMA-LP, which signed-on in May 2015. HACC filed an identity theft report with the New Britain police on October 29 stating that they first became aware of the station after receiving a property tax bill for it. The filing states that Castillo's apartment and another organization, The New Britain Museum of American Art (which also states it has never had any association with WZMA-LP) were the listed addresses for the station. Maine Public Broadcasting’s new Maine Public Classical Network has acquired 104.1 W281AC Portland from the University of Southern Maine. W281AC had served as a downtown Portland booster for 90.9 WMPG Gorham, but will now transition to the Classical network fed by 90.1 WMEA-HD2 Portland sometime this week. MPBN will pay $251,000 cash and $34,840 in underwriting for the translator. Maine Public Classical launched earlier this month on on 91.5 WFYB Freyburg, 99.7 W259BY Waterville, 106.1 W291CO Bangor and the HD2s of all the primary MPBN Public News/Talk stations across the state. In Portland it will give a direct competitor to Binnie Media’s “W-Bach” 106.9 Thomaston/96.9 W245AA Portland.

Maine Public Broadcasting will launch a second network on Monday, May 9. Maine Public Classical will launch across the network’s HD2 signals and on 91.5 WFYB Freyburg, 99.7 W259BY Waterville, and 106.1 W291CO Bangor. The group is planning on further acquisitions across the state to bring the programming to analog signals.
