Jack Taddeo has announced he will be exiting his position as Market Manager for NRG Media’s Waterloo IA cluster to take a new position at a company yet to be named later this month. In a press statement Taddeo wrote, “I’ve enjoyed working for NRG Media and am very grateful to Chuck DuCoty for hiring me, to Mary Quass for her support during the past 3+ years, and to the great staff I have worked with here. iHeartMedia rebranded “Rock 93.3” WBWZ New Paltz/Poughkeepsie NY as “Z93” on Monday. The Z93 name was utilized by WBWZ through multiple formats in the 1990s and 2000s deriving from its launch as part of the syndicated Hard Rock “Z-Rock” network in 1992. The station would later flip to All 1970s and AC before flipping to Hot AC “Star 93.3” in 2003 and then to “Rock 93.3” in 2012. WBWZ was down to a 1.0 share in the Spring 2016 Nielsen Audio ratings, while Townsquare Media’s competing Classic Rock 101.5 WPDH led the market with a 6.6 share. No changes to the station’s on-air lineup including WWDC Washington’s Elliot In The Morning accompanied the change.
The group that calls itself “The Smallest NPR Station In The Nation” is walking away from its LMA of 920 WGHQ Kingston NY after Pamal Broadcasting failed to follow through with its agreement to donate the station. Tri-State Public Communications, operators of Robin Hood Radio began operating WGHQ in December 2013 via LMA with the understanding that Pamal would soon file to donate the station to them to prevent WGHQ from going dark. After operating the station for over two years at $2000 per month with no agreement finalized, Tri-State notified Pamal that it will cease leasing the station after February 29. Neversink Media completed its relaunch of 1340 WALL Middletown NY and three translators serving the Hudson Valley this morning. After acquiring WALL in a swap with Townsquare Media for a translator earlier this year, the station relaunched this morning with Classic Hits positioned as “Orange County & The Hudson Valley’s Hometown Station”. The station is also heard on 94.1 W231BP Chester/Newburgh, 94.9 W235BI Middletown, and 105.7 W289BE Ellenville, which are all fed from Townsquare’s 101.5 WPDH-HD2 Poughkeepsie. Pamal Broadcasting will flip Talk “Hudson Valley Talk Radio” 1260 WBNR Beacon/1420 WLNA Peekskill, NY to Classic Country “Real Country” on Monday, March 24. Current “Good Morning Hudson Valley” host Bruce Owens will slide to overnights on sister AC 100.7 WHUD replacing the retiring John Nolan. The station will retain syndicated Talker Dave Ramsey in afternoons from 4 to 6pm with the new format as well as some of the weekend morning specialty shows. WBNR/WLNA also airs Army basketball and football and NASCAR.
A week after Pamal Broadcasting announced that it would take Talk 920 WGHQ Kingston, NY dark on December 31, the station has found a reprieve. Pamal will donate the station to Tri State Public Communications’ “Robin Hood Radio“, which will begin operating WGHQ via LMA on January 1. The Kingston Times reports that WGHQ needs around $20,000 in repairs to its transmitter, which will be split between Robin Hood and Kingston Community Radio. KCR, brokers the 7-9am daypart on WGHQ, an arrangement that will remain after Robin Hood assumes control of WGHQ.
