KELI San Angelo Relaunches As CHR 98.7 Kiss-FM

Townsquare Media has slid Hot AC “I98.7” KELI San Angelo TX to CHR while rebranding as “98.7 Kiss-FM“. The move, which comes a little over two years after the station segued from AC to Hot AC, places KELI in direct format competition with Foster Communications’ 94.7 KIXY. While KELI has dropped the syndicated Elvis Duran Show from mornings, the rest of the lineup remains in place with Dallas based voicetracker Jess in middays, On Air with Ryan Seacrest in afternoons, and PopCrush Nights with Lisa Paige in evenings.

Another LPFM Hit By F*** Donald Trump Barix Hijacking

Another station was hit on Monday with the Barix box hijacking as Lake Keowee Broadcasting Group’s Classic Hits/Beach “Sunny 105.9” WFBS-LP Salem SC began playing the loop of YG & Nipsey Hussle “F*** Donald Trump” around 10:00pm. President Frank Patterson wrote on Facebook that he has captured the IP address used by the hijackers and has passed it on to the FCC. In a follow-up comment it is mentioned that it was of international origin. Additionally it is now believed that the 101.9 pirate in Seattle that played the song on a loop for nearly a week was 101.9 KQES-LP Bellevue WA. Majic 103.5 Launches In San Angelo

William McCutchen’s 103.5 KBJX Mertzon/San Angelo TX has revealed its permanent identity as it has flipped to AC “Majic 103.5“. The station had been running Christmas Music as “Frosty 103.5” since signing on for the first time in October. KBJX fills the AC hole in the market created by Townsquare Media’s “Magic 98.7” KELI flipping to Hot AC “i98.7” in May.

More Secret Format Changes Of 2016

A couple weeks ago we rounded up a number of format changes that took place under the radar. Since that report we’ve been tipped off to a number of additional changes. Sheila Callahan & Friends, Inc. is swapping Silent 107.7 KMTZ Three Forks/Bozeman, MT to JLD Media for 104.1 K281BK Missoula. Translator Moves Hope Christian Church of Marlton is making another attempt at relocating its CP for 105.7 W289AZ Trenton, NJ into the Philadelphia market. After its previous attempt at a Mattoon Waiver to relocate to Camden was denied, W289AZ has amended its application and been granted a Construction Permit to relocate to Palmyra, NJ with 250 watts vertical at 48 meters. With the overlap between its originally licensed contour and the newly granted one, W289AZ should be in position to then make its originally proposed move to the tower of Davidson Media’s Spanish CHR “Mega 1310” WEMG, which will be the station to be rebroadcast (Coverage Map). FCC Applications 10/5: Translator On The Move Into Austin

Station Moves Beasley (Soon to be CBS) Sports 560 WQAM Miami has applied to relocate to the tower of Salem’s 1450 WOCN. The owners of the station’s tower site on Virginia Key notified WQAM and co-tenant 1360 WKAT earlier this year that their leases will not be renewed. At the new site where WQAM will join WKAT and WOCN it will drop its daytime power from its current 5kW to 4.1kW. Nighttime power will remain at 1kW. Cumulus AC “Sunny 97.5” WWSN Whitehall/Muskegon, MI applies to increase from 1.7kW at 130 meters to 3kW at 134.2 meters (Coverage Map). Now branding as the “KCBI Network“, the stations are positioning as “encouraging music & words of hope for Central and West Texas and Southern Oklahoma”. As reader Chip Kelley notes, it appears likely that 91.5 KSYE Frederick, OK/Wichita Falls, TX will be next to join the KCBI Network as it has changed calls to KCBK.
