DLC Media has flipped Sports “1130 The Fan” WFNF Brazil/99.5 W258BA Terre Haute IN to Adult Standards under new WAMB call letters. The Terre-Haute Tribune Star reports that the station is using Westwood One’s syndicated Standards feed. Owner Dave Crooks told the newspaper, “The plan is to flank our current light hits station, WFNB 92.7, which has a nice soft adult format. A lot of the songs we’re featuring [on WAMB] are songs that you rarely hear on the radio anymore.” Crooks also stated that the former Sports format had the lowest revenue and was one of the most expensive to program in the company.
After simulcasting “True Oldies 104.9” WAXI-FM Rockville since DLC Media closed on its acquisition of the former CHR “B92.7” from Emmis in February, WFNB Brazil/Terre Haute IN has flipped to Soft AC “Lite 92.7“. Positioned as “Five Decades Of Lite Favorites”, Owner Dave Crooks lists Norah Jones, Michael Buble, Adele, Fleetwood Mac, Chicago, Hall & Oates, Celine Dion, Elton John, Billy Joel, and Whitney Houston as core artists for the new station. Operations Manager Barry Kent launched the new format just before 2pm this afternoon. The station’s launch was set to take place in March but postponed due to construction delays at the company’s new studio facilities in Brazil.
When the three way Terre Haute move closes on Monday we now know what DLC Media will do with their newly acquired stations. Once WWVR vacates 105.5 for 98.5, the newly minted WZJK West Terre Haute will become Variety Hits “105.5 Jack-FM“. The Bob & Tom Show will move from new sister “True Oldies 104.9” WAXI-FM Rockville to WZJK. WZJK will also carry Indiana University football and basketball starting this fall. “95.9 Duke-FM” WDKE Seelyville will remain Classic Country, but rebrand as “95.9 The Legend” WVIG. Barry Kent, Operations Manager for WAXI-FM, will become Program Director and Morning host at WVIG. Until the company’s new studios are completed in March, CHR “B92.7” WFNB Brazil will simulcast WAXI-FM. Afterwards i...[Read More]
The FCC filings for the three deals reveal a bit more info regarding how the deals are structured and show a slightly different price than previously announced. Emmis will still receive $4.3 million in its sale of Country “Hi 99” WTHI Terre Haute and the intellectual property of Classic Rock “105.5 The River” WWVR West Terre Haute to Midwest, however $300,000 of that will be the proceeds of Midwest’s divestment of Classic Country “95.9 Duke-FM” WDKE Seelyville to DLC Media. The price DLC Media is paying for CHR “B92.7” WFNB Brazil, and Sports “1130/99.5 The Fan” WFNF Brazil/W293AL Rochester, and the license for 105.5 WWVR is $865,000 and not the $900,000 listed in the Emmis press release last week. Original Report 10/12: Thr...[Read More]
After multiple extensions Jeff Smulyan is letting his $4.10 per share privatization offer for Emmis Communications expire. This was Smulyan’s third attempt to repurchase all outstanding shares of the company since 2006. In a letter to the company’s board of directors Smulyan wrote, “I am sorry we could not reach an agreement on the valuation. I look forward to continuing to work with you as we move Emmis forward as a public company.” When the offer was first made in August, the board also had authorized management to sell off non-core assets. The first two of those deals were announced this week with the $5.2 million divestiture of the company’s Terre Haute radio stations and $25 million sale of Texas Monthly magazine. The company still intends to sell Gospel ...[Read More]

Translator Moves Clear Channel’s move of 94.3 W232CB Frederick, MD towards Washington, DC will get an assist from Salem Communications. With the translator operating under an STA with 25% of its licensed power due to an interference claim from Red Zebra Broadcasting’s WWXX Buckland, VA, Clear Channel has applied to shift the translator to Rockville, MD on 104.9 with 250 watts at 112 meters rebroadcasting Salem’s 105.1 WAVA-FM Arlington, VA (Coverage Map). With 104.9 being well within WAVA-FM’s coverage area this will simply be a quick step before Clear Channel shifts it again to either 104.5 or 104.7 in Washington proper. Update 5/23: WXXR made the flip to 90s centric Classic Country “95.9 Duke-FM” shortly after 12pm this afternoon. Original Report 5/22: A flip is imminent at Midwest Alternative “X95.9” WXXR Seelyville/Terre Haute. Midwest has registered 959DukeFM.com and applied for new WDKE call letters for the station. A Facebook page for the brand positions the station as “95.9 Duke-FM Plays The Legends Of Country”. A flip to Classic Country would flanks sister Country “Q102.7” WDWQ against Emmis’ market leading powerhouse “Hi 99” 99.9 WTHI. Since WDWQ’s launch in 2012, WTHI has retained its lead in the Terre Haute market but dropped from a ridiculous 27.9 share in Spring 2012 to a mere dominant 15.7 in Fall 2013. WXXR meanwhile dro...[Read More]
