Black Diamond Broadcasting has flipped Soft AC “Easy 95.5” WQEZ Glen Arbor/Traverse City MI to a simulcast of Rock “Rock 105” WGFM Cheboygan. 95.5 takes on new WGFE call letters as it returns to the simulcast it previously held from September 2009 until April 2013. The new format on 95.5 gives a direct format competitor in Traverse City to Northern Broadcast Rock “97.5 KLT” WKLT Kalkaska/98.9 WKLZ Petoskey. WKLT/WKLZ is set to flip to a broader music mix when Blarney Stone Broadcasting completes its purchase of Northern Broadcast. The former WQEZ call letters move to “Easy 106.3” WOEZ Onaway/Cheboygan, which previously ran the same music as 95.5 with separate imaging and commercials.

As part of a counter-proposal to his own application to add a new Class C2 on 97.1 in Gaylord MI, Roy Henderson's 99.3 WOUF Beulah MI applies to change city-of-license to Traverse City while upgrading from a Class C2 to C1 with 60kW/367m from the tower of WCMV and WPBN-TV outside Kalkaska MI. As part of that move sister 101.9 WLDR-FM Traverse City would change COL to Beulah, while two other stations would be displaced and four new allotments would be created.
Todd Mohr’s Mitten Media has launched AAA “106.3 The Mitten” WWMN Thompsonville/Traverse City and 107.7 W299CB Manistee MI. Listing Dave Matthews, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Hozier, Avett Brothers, Talking Heads, Black Keys, Coldplay, Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, Peter Gabriel, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Van Morrison, and Capital Cities as core artists, the station is describing itself as “a town hall for an eclectic and arts-driven community”. WWMN was previously licensed to Ludington as Hot AC WKLA-FM. That format and calls moved to 96.3 Ludington as “Hits 96” in August in preparation of the move to Thompsonville.
Northern Broadcast Inc. is selling its six stations and two translators in Northern Michigan to Sheryl and Jerry Coyne’s Blarney Stone Broadcasting. Blarney Stone will add Rock “KLT” 97.5 WKLT Kalkaska/98.9 WKLZ-FM Petoskey, Classic Hits “Fox” 94.3 WFCX Leland/92.5 WFDX Atlanta/100.5 W263CD Boyne City, Sports “ESPN Up North” 105.5 WSRJ Honor/106.7 WSRT Gaylord and the Construction Permit for 98.3 W252DA Petoskey for an undisclosed price. The Coyne’s currently own Rock “Q100.3” WQON Grayling, Sports “Y101.1” WGRY Roscommon, and Catholic 1230 WMQU Grayling. 106.7 WSRT will be spun-off to Catholic operator Baraga Radio. After ten years of Country, “Sunny Country 101.9” WLDR-FM Traverse City, MI has flipped back to AC. WLDR-FM is now branded as “101.9 The Bay” positioned as “All the hits without the rap”. WLDR-FM also simulcasts on 750 WARD Petoskey and 92.3 WBNZ Frankfort, MI. Discussing the change, station GM David Barr told the Traverse City Record Eagle, “Country is a fantastic format. Unfortunately it’s the kind of music that doesn’t have mass appeal in offices and retail stores. Since we dropped adult contemporary a decade ago, there has been a hole in Traverse City for that type of music.”

After having their move to near Pasadena rejected by the FCC, EMF Broadcasting has amended their application for 100.7 K264AF Guasti. The current app seeks to operate with 250 watts from a tower near West Covina, CA. Life On The Way Communications’ 91.1 K216FM has completed its move to Valley Village with 10 watts but now has applied to move south to the tower of 93.5 KDAY near Culver City where it would operate with 5 watts. Concurrently, Northern Broadcasting’s Talk simulcast “106.7/105.5 You-FM” 105.5 WSRJ Honor & 106.7 WSRT Gaylord will flip to Sports “ESPN Radio Northern Michigan” the same day.
