Townsquare Media Acquires 96.9 WOUR Utica

Townsquare Media has announced it has purchased Classic Rock 96.9 WOUR Utica NY from Galaxy Communications for an undisclosed amount. WOUR will become Townsquare’s fifth station in the Utica market joining Classic Hits “96.1 The Eagle” WODZ, AC “Lite 98.7” WLZW, Country “Big Frog 104.3” WFRG-FM, and News/Talk 950 WIBX. Townsquare will begin taking over sales operations for the station via a Joint Sales Agreement, but Galaxy will continue programming it until the sale closes. Educational Media Foundation’s Christian AC “K-Love” will enter Puerto Rico for the first time as the company purchases Rock “Alfa Rock 105.7” WCAD San Juan from Broadcasting & Programming Systems of Puerto Rico for $2.9 million. Fitzgerald & Hawras Partnership and Sound Communications are entering a Coordinated Modification Agreement in which Fitzgerald & Hawras’ Oldies “Cool 96” 96.1 WPHD South Waverly PA and Sound AC “Magic 92.7” WENY-FM Elmira NY will exchange licenses but retain programming on their current frequencies. WUTQ Utica Flips To Talk

After a weekend of stunting, Roser Communications has flipped Soft AC 100.7 WUTQ-FM Utica NY to Talk “Talk 100.7“. The “Talk of The Town” morning show hosted by Dave Coombs and Jason Aiello remains in place from 6-10am. Newscasts from WKTV 2 will air in the 5am, 12pm, and 5pm hours. Syndicated shows Glenn Beck 10am-12pm, Laura Ingraham 1-3pm. Dave Ramsey 3-5pm, America Now with Buck Sexton 6-9pm, Michael Savage 9pm-12am, and Red Eye Radio 12am-5am round out the new WUTQ lineup.

Galaxy Launches 99.1 Tony-FM Utica

Galaxy Communications has launched Variety Hits “99.1 Tony-FM” W256AJ Utica/94.9 WKLL-HD2 Frankfort NY. The station debuted at 11am this morning with the usual 10,000 songs in a row. It is promoting a broad “We Play Everything” library with a playlist focusing on hits of the 70s through 90s. Artists promoted include Billy Joel, America, Van Halen, Depeche Mode, Wham! and Adam Ant. W256AJ had been rebroadcasting Sports “ESPN Utica/Rome” 1310 WTLB. WTLB’s programming also airs on 1230 WIXT Little Falls and 1350 WRNY Rome.

WODZ Relaunches As 96.1 The Eagle

Another station with “Oldies” in its name, or in this case “Oldiez” has changed its name. 96.1 WODZ-FM Rome/Utica, NY relaunched on Friday, January 2 as “96.1 The Eagle“. Exiting with the change were morning host Keith James and afternoon host Greg McShea. Eric Meier Brand Manager/Afternoon Host at sister AC “Lite 98.7” WLZW adds oversight for The Eagle.

After applying in October to 104.7, the translator has amended its application to stay on 106.3 albeit from a new location in Long Island City, Queens with lower power. If accepted it will operate with 40 watts with city grade coverage over the bulk of Manhattan. Instead of rebroadcasting Clear Channel’s 106.7 WLTW-HD2, the application changes the originating station to 93.5 WVOX New Rochelle, NY. EMF Broadcasting has applied to move 91.9 W220DM Parma, OH to 92.7 due to displacement from WKJA Brunswick, OH.
