NRG Media flipped Sports “ESPN 1330” KWLO Waterloo, IA to CHR “107.3 The Party” at midnight Sunday. Utilizing its new 107.3 K297BS Waterloo translator, the 250 watt at 111 meter signal covers all of greater Waterloo and Cedar Falls (Coverage Map). The new format gives a CHR competitor to Cedar Rapids Divestiture Trust’s “Q92.3” KKHQ. The new station is being overseen by veteran programmer and manager Jack Taddeo, who is GM for all of the NRG Waterloo cluster. NRG Media acquired its Waterloo cluster last August from Woodward Communications. “The Party” joins Classic Hits 105.7 KOKZ, Active Rock “Rock 108” 107.9 KFMW and News/Talk 1540 KXEL.

The FCC has rejected Townsquare Media’s bid to pull CHR “Q92.3” KKHQ-FM Oelwein, Classic Rock 97.7 KCRR Grundy Center, and Country “K98.5” KOEL-FM Cedar Falls, IA out of the Cedar Rapids Divestiture Trust. The agency ruled that Townsquare’s bid for a waiver to return the stations was inadvertently filed as a company must wait two years between market definition changes. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls market was disbanded in Spring 2012 after Bahakel Communications stopped subscribing to then Arbitron. Townsquare and Nielsen Audio (successor to Arbitron) agreed to restore the market starting with the Spring 2014 ratings period and the deal was filed in August 2014 to attempt to bring the stations out of the trust. Adib Eden, President of Actulidad Radio Group states his intent to use the 990 signal to improve the reach of its news programming in South Florida. Westplex Broadcasting is transferring Rock “100.7 The Viper” KFNS-FM Troy, MO to Viper Broadcasting for the assumption of $318,750 in debt.
