FCC Applications 1/24

FCC Update Translator Construction Permit ApplicationsWith Martin Luther King Day and the snowstorm on the east coast shutting down government offices for a couple days it was a little slower on the application front than usual.

The continued attempt to get 107.7 on the air in the Omaha market takes another turn. With the FAA continually blocking the power level seeked by the applicants for the frequency, Kona Coast Radio has now applied to downgrade its application for KIMI Sydney, IA. Instead of operating as a Class C2 with 50kW at 124 meters, KIMI is looking to become a Class C3 running 13kW at 124 meters with a City of License change to Malvern, IA. Previous tests by KIMI and a previous CP by Connoisseur Media that was later returned to the FCC were halted by intermodulation interference to frequencies used by Offutt Air Force Base. The FAA has approved the use of 13kW from the applied location, although the signal will not be able to cover all of Omaha.

Educational Media Foundation has applied to downgrade 97.1 WYND-FM Hatteras, NC from a Class C1 operating with 59kW at 170 meters to a Class C2 running 29kW at 200 meters from a new tower site about a mile north of its existing location.

Shamrock Communications has been granted a move of WQFM Hancock, NY from 107.1 to 104.5. Scott Fybush’s Northeast Radio Watch states that the station “had a hard time getting a clean signal from its parent station (106.9 WEZX Scranton), and it’s hoping that moving its output frequency away from the receiver input frequency will help that situation and provide clearer “Rock 107? along the river.” The move, which was first applied for in 2009, will see WQFM upgrade from 2kw at 33.8 meters to 6kw at the same height.

Bristol Broadcasting has agreed to purchase 105.3 W287CF Bristol, TN and 106.1 W291CP Blountville, TN from Murray Communications for $102,000. W287CF’s 250 watt signal will be used to rebroadcast Sports “98 The Sports Fox” 980 WFHG Bristol, VA while W291CP will rebroadcast News/Talk “Super Talk 92.9” WFHG-FM Bluff City, TN.

GEOS Communications has acquired two Pennsylvania translator CP’s from Family Life Ministries for $2,000. 92.5 W223CC Wilkes-Barre is currently licensed to rebroadcast 89.9 WVIA-FM Scranton with 250 watts at 266.6 meters, while 96.7 W244DB South Williamsport will operate with 10 watts at 211.5 meters rebroadcasting 100.7 WCOG-FM Galeton.

Manning Broadcasting has purchased 98.9 W255CP Hagerstown, MD from Starboard Media Foundation for $13,000. The translator CP will be used to bring an FM signal to News/Talk 1490 WARK Hagerstown.

Educational Media Foundation will buy 95.7 W239CC Ironton, OH and 105.9 W290CP Lancaster, OH from Cedarville University for $14,000.

EMF has applied to upgrade 98.5 K253BV Oklahoma City from 50 to 130 watts, while remaining at 190 meters. The translator will rebroadcast 88.9 KYLV Oklahoma City.

Telebeeper of New Mexico has applied to relocate 93.7 K229CL Albuquerque to Sandia Peak while rebroadcasting 1240 KDSK Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. K229CL will operate with 40 watts at 1239 meters.

John Garziglia has applied to modify the CP of 97.7 W249CO Reston, VA. The translator seeks to relocate to 98.3 with 250 watts rebroadcasting 88.5 WAMU-HD3 Washington.

The most recent batch of new translator CP grants include:
