The expected attempt to move 104.3 WEAT-FM West Palm Beach into the Miami market has hit the FCC.
A group of applications have been filed that will see four stations move or change frequencies to make the addition of 104.3 into the Miami market a reality. What is now WEAT-FM will change city of license from West Palm Beach to Miramar where it would operate as a Class C1 with 100kW at 283 meters from a tower off of Hallandale Beach Boulevard that now serves as the auxiliary antenna for Clear Channel’s five FM’s in the market.
To make the move happen a few other dominos will need to fall into place. Alex Media’s Construction Permit for a new station in Islamorada, FL has concurrently applied to shift from 104.5 to 93.5. That application asks for an involuntary move of 93.5 WKEY-FM Key West to 93.7. 104.3 WORZ-LP Key Largo has agreed to compensation from Palm Beach Broadcasting to apply to move to a new frequency.
The recent sale of CBS’ West Palm Beach cluster to Palm Beach Broadcasting is the impetus for these moves. 104.3’s current programming will move on June 1 to 107.9 while a placeholder format will fill 104.3 as Palm Beach Broadcasting moves and sells 104.3.
