Riviera Broadcasting and Trumper Communications have announced a merger that will bring together their Phoenix area Hot AC’s.
Trumper’s “Hot 97.5” KMVA Dewey-Humboldt and Riviera’s “My 103.9” KEXX Gilbert will combine on January 1 to form “Hot 97.5/103.9“.
Each station covers opposite ends of the Phoenix market with KMVA serving the west side and KEXX strongest in the East. The merger will give the stations full-market coverage in their competition with Clear Channel’s “Mix 96.9” KMXP. In the December PPM ratings released yesterday, KMVA registered a 2.8 share, while KEXX added a 1.9. KMXP had a 3.8 share.
No word yet on how this effects the staffs of either station other than Trumper’s Jeff Trumper joining the board of Riviera. In addition to KMVA/KEXX, Riviera operates Spanish CHR “Mi 95.1” KVIB and Rhythmic CHR “Power 98.3” KKFR.

Riviera Broadcasting, LLC is owner and operator of radio stations in Phoenix, AZ including Power 98.3 (KKFR-FM), Latino Vibe 95.1 (KVIB-FM), and Hot 97.5/103.9. The group is headed by veteran broadcast executive Michael Cutchall, President and CEO, and Jose Rodiles, COO. Jeff Trumper will join the board of directors of the newly-combined operating company.
