Update 8:30pm: WPHI made its flip to Classic Hip-Hop “Boom 107.9” around 7:00pm tonight.
Positioning it as “Throwback Hip-Hop”, the station is identifying Jay Z, Biggie, 2Pac, Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott, and The Roots as core artists. Radio-One VP/Programming Colby Colb is serving as imaging voice for Boom.
Original Report 11/6 3:00pm: A change appears on its way to Radio-One Urban “Hot 107.9” WPHI Pennsauken/Philadelphia.
As the station let go of its airstaff including morning hosts Laiya St. Clair and Shamara today, registrations for BoomPhilly.com and Boom1079Philly.com were made by Radio-One’s regular domain registrar this afternoon.
Boom would seem to indicate the launch of another Classic Hip-Hop station for the company along the lines of “Boom 92.1” KROI that launched last month in Houston.
