CBS Launches Adult Hits “95.7 The Spot” Houston

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
December 30, 2016

Hot 95.7 The Spot KKHH Houston CBS95.7 KKHH flipped to Adult Hits “95.7 The Spot” at 12:30pm. The Spot is positioning itself as “Your Place. Your Music. Your Way” focusing on pop hits from the 70s through 2000s. Core artists listed include Madonna, Boston, Maroon 5, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, Eurythmics, Prince, Journey, and George Michael.

The new format also fills the vacant Classic Hits void in the Houston market and positions the station between iHeartMedia’s market leading AC “Sunny 99.1” KODA and Cox Media Classic Rock “107.5/106.9 The Eagle” KGLK/KHPT.

Listen to the launch of 95.7 The Spot at FormatChange.com.

The very 80s heavy first hour of the Spot consisted of:
Prince – Let’s Go Crazy
Guns N Roses – Sweet Child Of Mine
Madonna – Like A Prayer
Green Day – When I Come Around
Wham – Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’
Duran Duran – Hungry Like The Wolf
Black Crowes – Hard To Handle
Don Henley – All She Wants To Do Is Dance
Wild Cherry – Play That Funky Music
Michael Jackson – Billie Jean
Real Life – Send Me An Angel
Bruce Springsteen – Hungry Heart
Simple Minds – Don’t You (Forget About Me)

In an exciting move for Houston area music fans, CBS RADIO’s 95.7 today unveils a fresh new format beginning promptly at 12:30 pm. 95.7 The Spot is Houston’s newest adult hits radio station programmed for listeners who love a variety of hits from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s. The station is designed for listeners who need a break from the everyday stresses of life and features the most popular artists of the time, including Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Madonna, U2, Prince and many others.

“We worked exhaustively to understand what Houston listeners were missing in the market from their local radio stations,” said Sarah Frazier, SVP/Market Manager, CBS RADIO Houston. “Listeners told us they wanted their own spot to hear their favorite music hits, a spot to relax and energize at work and a spot to feel comfy and complete. This is your Spot, Houston.”

Listen to The Spot on-air, online at 957thespot.com and on the Radio.com app.

Original Report 10:30am: CBS CHR “Hot 95.7” KKHH Houston will launch its new identity at 12:30pm today.

We reported yesterday that CBS had registered 957TheSpot.com for KKHH, while all references to the Dave, Mahoney, and DK morning show has been wiped from sister Hot AC “Mix 96.5” KHMX.

The station began stunting at 10:20 with a robotic clock counting down from 2957. A message on KKHH’s website simply states “We’re making some changes to 95-7. Tune In at 12:30pm to find out what.”

Disappointing. A bunch of tired, album-length songs in a row. The pacing feels very slow to me out of the gate.

Sounds pretty much like CBS classic Hits stations CBS-FM in New York, K-Earth in L.A., and K-LUV in The DFW.

Per All Access (at http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/161107/kkhh-hot-95-7-houston-flips-to-adult-hits-95-7-the), DJ Riddler–who was also handling the “Energy” HD subchannel–is definitely out.
