Local Voice Media is expanding its “All News 102” 1490 WXTG/101.9 W270DA Hampton and 102.1 WXTG-FM Virginia Beach VA to an additional signal on June 1.
Classical “107.9 Bach-FM” WBQK West Point/Williamsburg will drop its format to join the News simulcast that debuted on the other signals at the start of the year. The station features content from co-owned local news sites Southside Daily, Hampton Newport News Daily, and Williamsburg Yorktown Daily as well as WVEC-TV.
Williamsburg Yorktown Daily reports that the station features a 10 person staff led by General Manager/News Director Dee Patel. Patel joined the station after previously serving in multiple roles including News Director at 1060 KYW Philadelphia.

I’m glad that they have someone like Ms. Patel working for them; I do remember her from KYW, but didn’t know specifically what happened. Also, in retrospect, a commercial Classical station there having a run of well over 10 years is surprising–especially since WHRO’s signal (particularly via repeater WHRJ) does reach roughly that far. Perhaps the new “WCVE Music” simulcast from Richmond also proved to be a competitor.
