Community First Broadcasting has flipped “Classic Hits 101.5” 1090 KSOU/101.5 K268CZ Sioux Center IA to Spanish Adult Hits “Sioux Ritmo“.
General Manager Piet Westerbeek told the Sioux Center News that while the station will feature Spanish music all service elements will be in English. “Spanish speakers will be able to hear the music they like to listen to, that they grew up with. ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s through today of the hits of that genre, but its going to have English weather, English news and English sports. That’s done by design. When we’ve talked with Spanish speakers, they’ve said they didn’t want everything in Spanish, they want to hear English as they learn the language.”
Westerbeek also stated that the station has been planning the flip for nearly two years commenting, “We want to be aware of who our community is that we’re serving. As the demographics in Sioux Center have been growing and changing, more parents of kids who go to school don’t speak English or speak don’t English as their first language. We had to ask ourselves: Are we serving our community correctly the way we are or are we changing who we are? That’s what prompted us to start considering the Spanish music.”
The station serves the northwest corner of Iowa reaching into parts of the Sioux Falls SD market.
