Townsquare Media has flipped AC “My 94.7” KVLL Wells/Lufkin TX to Regional Mexican “La Mejor 94.7“.
The flip took place on Monday, February 10. Oscar ‘El Gene’ Chavez will serve as Brand Manager and morning host. Chavez previously held those duties at Reynolds Radio’s “Mega 99.3” KAPW White Oak/Tyler TX. The station says it will focus on music from core artists including Vicente Fernandez, Julión Álvarez, Gerardo Ortiz, and Joan Sebastian.
Townsquare Market President Ishmael Johnson told the Lufkin Daily News, “This has been in the works for over a year. We wanted to get it right before we put it out. We wanted to wait until we got Oscar, the DJ we really wanted, because it’s important. The Hispanic population needs to be served tremendously.”
The flip creates an in-market competitor to Kasa Family Limited Partnership’s “Super Mix 101.9” KSML-FM Huntington. The signal rimshots the Lufkin/Nacogdoches market from the south giving it coverage of just the Lufkin half.
