Entercom News/Talk 1020 KDKA Pittsburgh has taken afternoon host Wendy Bell off the air after comments made on Monday led to a listener and advertiser backlash.
On Monday Bell told listeners that any protester who attempted to mess with a statue of Christopher Columbus should be shot on site. That led to CBS’ KDKA-TV earlier this week to have to put out a statement that Bell did not work for them.
At least one local advertiser pulled their advertising from Bell’s show. While it is unclear if Bell has been let go from the company, she has been wiped from KDKA’s website. She was previously fired from WTAE-TV in 2016 after 18 years for racist comments made on Facebook. She joined KDKA in December 2018.
Entercom Pittsburgh SVP/Market Manager Michael Spacciapolli released the following statement:
Entercom is the home to thousands of voices representing Americans of all races, ethnicities, gender identity, sexual orientation, beliefs and ability.
We take very seriously our responsibility to provide a platform for our communities to engage in diverse and meaningful dialogue, debate and the right to freedom of speech, we do not condone the incitement of violence on any of our platforms.
Members of our community have recently brought to our attention comments made by Wendy Bell that do not align with Entercom’s values. Wendy has been taken off air until further notice.
Entercom Pittsburgh remains steadfast in our commitment to inclusive conversations that engage everyone in Pittsburgh while excluding any form of violence.

Given her history of past comments as reported in the post, KDKA radio and Entercom knew what they were in for when they hired her. You play with fire, you get burned.
Wendy Bell isn’t the only Talk host whose sympathies have harmed her station. Vicki McKenna of Right-Wing station WIBA, Madison WI, openly praised militias in general and Kenosha vigilante Kyle Rittenhouse in particular. That led a major health care practice to cancel all of its advertising from WIBA, including sponsorship of the news studio.
KDKA, WIBA, KBFL, WBZ-FM, WSMN, WAIO, WTAM… Seems like there’s a pattern here.
Wendy Bell is now officially gone from KDKA.
