Spencer Bynes Joins iHeartMedia Atlanta As Metro President

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
January 25, 2023

iHeartMedia iHeart iHeartCommunicationsiHeartMedia has announced the appointment of Spencer Bynes as Metro President for its Atlanta cluster.

Bynes moves to Atlanta from iHeart’s Texas region where he has served as Area President overseeing Beaumont, Bryan/College Station, Corpus Christi, Rio Grande Valley and Waco clusters since June 2021. He previously served as Director of Talent Management for the company from 2004 to 2009 overseeing sales training. Prior to returning to iHeart, Bynes served as Vice President/Business Development – Southern Region for Lee Hecht Harrison.

Bynes fills the opening created by the firing of Drew Lauter last October after a video of Lauter from August 2021 recorded by a coworker showed Lauter in the backseat of a car coming back from a charity event with other staffers from the company was released.

iHeartMedia announced today that Spencer Bynes has been named Metro President for the Atlanta Market, effective February 1, 2023. iHeartMedia Atlanta has a strong cross-platform presence and includes a number of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing more than six stations including Top 40, Country, Hip Hop, Spanish Contemporary, Regional Mexican and Black Information Network (BIN).

iHeartMedia has the leading consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company. As Metro President, Bynes will be responsible for overseeing all programming and marketing for iHeartMedia’s Atlanta-based radio brands, as well as developing and managing key partnerships with current and potential clients across all iHeartMedia platforms. Additionally, he will actively build and foster community relationships across the market and region, while providing leadership, guidance and oversight to the team. He will report to Kim Guthrie, Division President for iHeartMedia.

“Spencer has done a superb job in his leadership role in Texas, where he drove positive changes in culture and performance,” said Kim Guthrie, Division President. “In addition, his talents on how best to recruit, develop and coach a leadership team make him a wonderful fit for our needs here in Atlanta.”

Bynes joins the market from iHeartMedia’s Texas region, where he’s served as the Area President since 2021. He was previously part of the iHeartMedia family from 2011 to 2016, serving as the Director of Talent Management and Talent Acquisition. Bynes is also familiar with the Atlanta area after working for Coca-Cola North America as Talent Acquisition Manager for a number of years. Additionally, his previous work includes Lee Hecht Harrison, where he served as Vice President of Business Development in the Southern Region.

“What an extraordinary opportunity! Atlanta has a robust and flourishing economic business environment, a fascinating community of people from every part of the world and an incredible music culture and heritage,” said Bynes. “I am honored to join this team. I look forward to expanding iHeartMedia’s reach and influence and helping our customers thrive and grow their businesses.”
