Cox Media Group Classic Rock “97.1 The River” WSRV Gainesville/Atlanta GA has announced the arrival of Axel Lowe as Assistant Director of Branding and Programming and morning host starting Thursday, October 5.
The arrival marks a sort-of talent trade between WSRV and Cumulus Classic Alternative “99X” WNNX College Park as Lowe takes the morning show position that had been held by Craig from 2012 until the end of 2022. After sitting out his non-compete, Craig joined WNNX in July as where he succeeded Lowe as Program Director.
Lowe spent the majority of his career in Atlanta joining “99X” in 1992 and stayed with the company after the calls were moved to 100.5 and relaunched as “Rock 100.5“ with much of his tenure as APD/afternoon host and programming the “99X” brand on multiple translators. He moved to “96 Rock” WFTK Cincinnati in December 2014 as Program Director and then returned to WNNX in July 2019 before overseeing the relaunch of “99X” last December. Lowe also spent time co-hosting mornings and then afternoons with ‘Southside’ Steve Rickman prior to the relaunch of the Alternative brand.
Cox Media Group (“CMG”) Atlanta announced that Axel Lowe has been named Morning Host and Assistant Director of Branding and Programming for 97.1 The River (WSRV) in Atlanta, GA, effective October 5, 2023.
Lowe is a 30-year radio veteran, shaping rock radio brands in both Atlanta and Cincinnati through his roles as a Program Director and hosting shows in both AM and PM drive. He graduated from The Art Institute and immediately began working in radio right here in Atlanta. He lives in Sandy Springs with his wife Kellye and has two daughters and dog named Georgia.
“Mornings with Axel Lowe” will broadcast live Monday through Friday from 6:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M on 97.1 The River. Lowe will also serve as Assistant Director of Branding and Programming for the station.
