Bill Hagen’s Sports “The Mightier 1090” XEPRS Tijuana/San Diego will give way to Spanish Catholic programming on Thursday, August 1.
En Frequencia reports that Tijuana based Monte MarÃa Radio will begin operating the station that day as the organization is promoting the launch of their programming on the station. The current Sports brand had debuted in August 2020 after the Out The Window Advertising owner announced he had initiated a five year lease of the signal in April 2020 from owner Andres Bichara, one year after Broadcast Company of the Americas’ lost its lease to operate “Mighty 1090“.
Nobody involved with “The Mightier 1090” has commented on the potential demise of the station. The station’s programming consists of a mix of syndication mostly from ESPN Radio and SportsMap Radio along with some local shows on weekdays from 3-8pm targeting both San Diego and Los Angeles.
En Frequencia notes that Monte MarÃa Radio was founded in 2001 and its programming has aired on multiple radio and television stations in the Tijuana and San Diego markets since then.

Bill Hagen made it 4 years out of the 5 year lease. Surprised The Mightier 1090 lasted that long. The station didn’t have much of a chance for success being the 3rd sports station in San Diego without having the Padres. Too much syndicated programming (such as betting), not enough live local shows, and it was on AM radio.
