After stunting with Halloween music as “The Haunt“ since October 26, Milwaukee Radio Alliance launched Country “Froggy 100.3/107.3” at noon today.
Airing on 100.3 W262CJ Milwaukee, 107.3 W297BY Franklin, and 93.3 WLDB-HD3 Mlwaukee, the move creates competitor to iHeartMedia’s “FM 106.1” WMIL and Magnum Media’s pair of suburban signals “92.5 Buzz Country” WMBZ West Bend and “92.1 VTY Country” WVTY Racine.
Gordon Mays joins the station as Director of Programming from Mid-West Family Broadcasting Rockford IL where we was cluster Director of Programming and Content and PD/midday host of Country “95.3 The Bull” WRTB. Mays began his career at WKQX/WLUP Chicago in promotions and on-air roles before spending three years hosting nights at CBS Rock 94.1 WYSP Philadelphia from 2008-11 followed by five years in weekends/fill-in at Country 92.5 WXTU. He would join WRTB as afternoon host in 2017, and also spent some time filling in at WUSN Chicago.
Mays said, “This station is going to be where Milwaukee discovers country. There are so many incredible acts that have traditionally been ignored by mainstream country radio. We want to amplify their voices. Expect us to feature a mix of burgeoning talent and current chart-toppers.”
MRA VP/Programming and Operations Michelle Rutkowski said, “One of the best things about the Milwaukee Radio Alliance, is that we have always been listener-driven. We’re really proud of that. Our local roots and involvement in the community led to people telling us they’ve been craving this kind of country station. We’re going to give it to them and we’re going to keep taking their input as we grow. To us, that’s the key to success.”
Market President Colleen Valkoun added, “We’re proud to bring another option for country music to Milwaukee. The genre is so rich and brimming with talent. Launching this station was an undertaking, but it’s going to be worth it to give people a chance to access a larger part of the genre so they can enjoy artists they might not have heard on other platforms.”
