A new partnership between Texas Southern University’s Hip Hop/R&B “90.9 The Choice” KTSU and Houston Public Media will see Urban Alternative “The Vibe” move from KTSU-HD2 to 88.7 KUHF-HD3 Houston.
“The Vibe” replaces AAA “Mixtape“, which utilized programming from WXPN Philadelphia’s XpoNential Radio. As part of the deal, newscasts from Public News/Talk 88.7 KUHF-FM will air on KTSU.
KTSU General Manager Ernest Walker said, “We are so excited about the partnership with Houston Public Media. Both stations are university licensees and public media contributors in the Houston community. This is an opportunity for both organizations to expand our audience reach and extend our missions of service to even more people across the Houston community.”
HPM Station Manager Josh Adams added, “In addition to providing expanded broadcast distribution for The Vibe, we will share News 88.7 updates on KTSU’s primary channel, The Choice. This collaboration is truly about expanding community service. We are providing a 24-7 broadcast platform for KTSU’s hip-hop and R&B public radio station while also informing a new audience with our local news, weather and in-depth reporting.”
The Vibe launched in August 2020 as a web stream as a part of Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Urban Alternative initiative.
