Steve Hegwood’s Core Radio Group has launched Adult R&B “87.7 The Vibe” WTBS-LD Atlanta via LMA with Moon Beam Media & Broadcasting.
The new brand will feature a mix of R&B from the 80s through now with core artists including Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, Janet Jackson, Usher, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, and SZA as well as spotlighting Southern Soul artists such as King George, Sir Charles Jones, and Tucka & Wes Love.
Core Radio Group President/CEO Steve Hegwood said, “87.7 The Vibe will fill a void in the Atlanta market. Southern Soul has recently surged in popularity, rooted in traditions of blues, gospel and R&B. This genre offers a nostalgic yet modern take on storytelling with an emotional connection.“
WTBS-LD had most recently operated as Regional Mexican “La Que Buena 101.9/87.7” simulcasting 101.9 WAZX-FM Cleveland GA covering the northeastern most extremes of the Atlanta market. Core Radio Group previously leased the station from 2016 to 2019 as “Old School 87.7” and later R&B “Mix 87.7“.
