Cumulus Media has concluded its current batch of station shut-downs with four more stations ceasing operations this weekend.
In Des Moines IA, Sports “1700/101.3 The Champ” KBGG/K267CY Des Moines has gone silent. KBGG carried all-syndicated programming from Infinity Sports Network plus Westwood One’s Jim Rome Show in afternoons. The station was one of three Sports stations in the market and registered a 0.2 share in the January 2025 Nielsen Audio ratings leaving the market with iHeartMedia’s 1460 KXNO/106.3 KXNO-FM and Saga’s “ESPN Des Moines” 1350 KRNT/102.1 K271CO.
One of the most successful stations to be shut-down in this round by Cumulus, Conservative Talk 1260 WFTW/107.5 W298CV Fort Walton Beach FL had a 1.9 share in the Fall 2024 ratings. WFTW featured a local morning show “Emerald Coast mornings with Dan Diamond” from 7-9am and syndicated talkers including Chris Plante, Sean Hannity and Mark Levin. All three of those shows are heard in the adjacent Pensacola market on Cumulus’ 1370 WCOA. Conservative Talk continues to be served in the market by JVC Media’s “Florida Man Radio” 103.1 WZLB.
Two stations have shut-down in Flint MI.
“Sports Xtra 1330” WTRX carried programming from Infinity Sports Network and the statewide syndicated “Spin on Sports” hosted by Anthony Bellino in mornings and “The Huge Show” with Bill Simonson in afternoons. The station had a 0.3 share in the Fall 2024 Nielsen ratings.
Classic Hits “K107.3” 1570 WWCK/107.3 W297CG carried Westwood One’s Classic Hits 24/7 network. WWCK had a 0.9 share in the Fall ratings.
A fifth station was set to sign-off last Friday, but received a last-minute stay of execution. Conservative Talk “Talk 1270” WHLD Niagara Falls/Buffalo was on Cumulus’ list to sign-off on Friday, March 21 and while its website was taken down the station has continued broadcasting perhaps indicating a deal to transfer the station is forthcoming. With its all-syndicated lineup, WHLD had a 1.0 share in the January 2025 Nielsen Audio ratings trailing Audacy’s 930 WBEN’s 6.5 share.
Subtracting WHLD, Cumulus will have turned off 22 stations during the month of March
