WCOO Rebuilds Its Bridge Into Charleston

August 4, 2025

105.5 The Bridge WCOO CharlestonLM Communications AAA “105.5 The Bridge” WCOO Kiawah Island/Charleston has announced a musical revamp.

Now positioning as “The Sound of the Lowcountry”, the station is placing an additional emphasis on American roots music, with genres it describes as including Contemporary Folk, Bluegrass, Indie Rock, Alt Country, Beach Tunes, and Gullah music. The station says it “aims to amplify the authentic sound, soul, and spirit of the Lowcountry”.

Program Director Gabe Reynolds said, “The Bridge is a love letter to the Lowcountry. We’re not chasing trends or algorithms, we’re chasing truth. This is about real music, real voices, and real connections. In an age where algorithms drive most listening experiences, 105.5 The Bridge dares to be different. We reject the predictable, embrace the unexpected, and shine a spotlight on the underserved and overlooked. Our airwaves feature local voices, showcase local musicians, and deliver a deeply personal, handcrafted sound.”

Morning host Jim ‘The Critic’ Voigt, who returned to the station last August, will move to afternoons from 3-7pm.

The 7am hour of the Bridge featured:

  • Allman Brothers Band – Ramblin Man
  • Band of Horses – Laredo
  • Barns Courtney – Fire
  • Paul Simon – Late In The Evening
  • Lola Young – Messy
  • Stevie Ray Vaughan – Cold Shot
  • Brandi Carlile – Broken Horses
  • Hozier – Jackie & Wilson
  • Bob Dylan – Positively 4th Street
  • Michael Marcagi – Scared To Start
  • Elvis Costello – Watching The Detectives
  • His Golden Messenger – Sanctuary
  • Milky Chance & Jack Johnson – Don’t Let Me Down

WCOO held a 1.7 share in the June 2025 Nielsen Audio ratings.

AAA is at a very interesting inflection point and I watched it happen while I was in the midst of programming a small project a few years ago. you can see echoes of it in CHR and alternative, but we’ve approached a time where a station has to choose a lane, in AAA. You simply can’t be everything to everyone and that is why a few stations failed recently. If this is the Gabe I’m thinking of, I’m not surprised whatsoever, great guy, always helpful to anyone who needs it. former programmer in Ithaca I think? Mostly known as a CHR guy, but had a lot of interesting thoughts on Alton AAA when I pressed him on it so I’m excited!
