iHeartMedia is making its Black Information Network available to stations at other companies through syndication via Premiere Networks.
The syndication will start on November 1 on a market exclusive basis for stations to air either the network’s hourly newscasts, run in certain dayparts, or as a 24/7 format alongside iHeart’s stations in 34 markets doing so.
iHeartMedia President of Multicultural Business & Development and President of BIN stated, “Over the past five years, the Black Information Network (BIN) has grown into one of the most trusted and credible news brands serving Black audiences. BIN is a 24/7 audio news service, based in Atlanta with reporters across the country. You’ll find the BIN All News format on AM and FM radio in 34 markets and nationally on the iHeartRadio app. Around the clock, Black writers, anchors, and reporters are telling the stories that matter to our community, from a Black perspective.”

Gee, it’s been such a staggering ratings success (all ratings from the markets’ most-recent Nielsens, Mon-Sun, 6 am-12 Mid, 6+ or 12+) – no show on WUST Washington, DC; No show on KKSF San Francisco; No show on WBIN Atlanta; No show on WMFN Chicago; No show on WXBN Miami; No show on WDFN Detroit; 0.2 on WODT New Orleans; 0.1 on WQLL Baltimore; 0.1 on WTEL Philadelphia; No show on WWRL New York; No show on WGVL Greenville-Spartanburg. I could go on but I think I’ve made my point. BIN is a great idea and could be a great service to the African American community, but it’s badly executed and cheaply done (like most iHeart formats. The African American community deserves far, far better.
Another great Filler Format for struggling AM stations to pick up. If iHeart is paying carry fees to non-owned affiliates, and those stations have already tried sports betting, then it might be worth it. Otherwise BIN is a no ratings, revenue and growth format.
