Spoon River Media has closed on its $65,000 purchase of 1350 WOAM Tremont IL and translators 92.9 W225DC and 107.5 W298BH Peoria from American Educational Foundation and launched Adult R&B “92.9/107.5 The Vibe” on Monday.

Launching with 10,000 songs commercial-free, the station debuted at 12pm on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day following a weekend of stunting with Stevie Wonder’s “Happy Birthday”. Core artists for the new brand include Mary J. Blige, Bruno Mars, Jodeci, TLC, Rihanna, Michael Jackson, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, and Keith Sweat. The company said that the choice to launch on Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a purposeful one, tying the station’s debut to a national holiday that honors Dr. King’s vision of community and equality.

The station joins Spoon River Media’s pair of stations in nearby Canton IL and three in Laporte IN. The company says it intends to open a local office in Peoria and will be building a staff of local talent and sales.
