Max Media relaunched AC “92.9 The Wave” WTWV-FM Suffolk/Norfolk VA with a shift o Yacht Rock on Thursday, February 5.
Positioning as “Yacht Rock for Coastal Virginia”, the station is now focusing on artists from the 1970s and 80s including Michael McDonald, The Doobie Brothers, Toto, Kenny Loggins, Steely Dan, and Christopher Cross.
Operations Manager Jay West said, “These songs have the ability to bridge generations. There’s a real thirst for this music from a smoother, simpler era. The 70’s & 80’s are back in style.”
Vice President/General Manager Keith Barton commented, “The reimaging of 92.9 The Wave as Coastal Virginia’s Yacht Rock station is a natural fit. This format delivers feel-good music that listeners know and love, and we’re excited to introduce a station that reflects the relaxed coastal lifestyle of our community.”
No on-air lineup changes accompanied the relaunch, which continues to feature a jockless “More Music Mornings”, Jen Lewis in middays, and Jay West in afternoons.
WTWV-FM had a 2.3 share in the Holiday 2025 Nielsen Audio ratings as one of three AC’s in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach market that also includes Audacy’s “101.3 2WD” WWDE with its Christmas music fueled 11.6 share and iHeartMedia’s new Soft AC “105.3 The Breeze” WNOH which had a 2.9 with Christmas music. WTWV-FM has consistently sat in the low to mid 2 share range that past six months.
