ESPN Coming To FM In The Quad Cities

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
June 13, 2014

Star 93.5 KQCS ESPN 1170 KJOC Quad Cities Davenport MolineJust six weeks after flipping 1170 KJOC Davenport, IA from Oldies to ESPN Radio, Townsquare Media is giving the station an FM simulcast.

Hot AC “Star 93.5” KQCS Bettendorf, IA will drop its format and flip to a simulcast of KJOC as “ESPN 93.5FM“. KQCS registered a 1.5 share in the Fall 2013 Nielsen Audio ratings.

For the first time in the Quad Cities market FM radio will have a 24-hour sports station. The worldwide leader in sports ESPN begins airing on Townsquare Media’s 93.5 FM signal as of Monday morning June 16th with the popular “Mike & Mike Morning Show”. ESPN SportsCenter anchor Mike Greenberg and former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Mike Golic form the backbone of the nation’s hottest sports radio show in the morning. Playing off their different personalities, Mike and Mike get the morning started right with discussions on the topical sports issues, interviews with the prominent sports personalities who are in the news and interaction with listeners. It’s a fun, fast-paced morning drive show to get the avid sports fan ready for the day. Following Mike & Mike ESPN 93-5 FM will feature the whole ESPN line-up throughout the rest of the day include hourly “Sports Center Updates”

“We are excited to bring sports radio to the FM dial in the QC”, according to General Manager Bruce Law. “We know from our local research that sports fans are asking for more choices to get sports programming and we are proud to bring it to them!”

In addition to ESPN programming, ESPN 93-5 FM will broadcast a newly developed High School Football and Boys Basketball line-up with a partnership formed with QC Sportsnet.com which will include live on-air and on-line most winning High School programs.

Townsquare Media is a local media and entertainment company that owns and operates radio, digital and live event properties in 66 small to mid-sized markets across the country. Late in 2013 Townsquare Media purchased four radio stations in the Quad Cities; 97X, B100, Rock 104-9 and now ESPN 93-5 FM/1170 AM. The Company specializes in creating and distributing original entertainment, music and lifestyle content. Its assets include 312 radio stations, over 325 local companion websites with streaming capabilities, a streaming radio App called “radioPup” for iOS and Android, and approximately 500 live events.

Exactly right Jeremy. With 93.5 doing ESPN no need for the am to dump oldies
