Domain Insight 6/9: Mo(re) Country On The Way To Springfield?

[membership level="2,3"] Zimmer Communications is preparing to complete a Springfield MO move-in. When 99.9 KBFL-FM Fair Grove MO completes its CP to relocate to 93.7 from a tower in Springfield proper, it will do so with a new identity. Currently Sports " The Jock " simulcasting 1060 KBFL/96.9 K245CA Springfield, the station changed call letters to KZMO in April. Now a series of domains hinting at a Country format under one of three brands have appeared. The domains are Z937Country.com , CountryZ937.com , CountryZ93.com , 937MoCountry.com , MoCountry937.com , 937TheStage.com , and TheStage937.com . The station appears set to join a crowded Country marketplace in Springf ield alongside SummitMedia's market-leading 94.7 KTTS (8.3 share in the Fall 2024 Nielsen Audio ratings) and iHeartMedia's "100.5 The Wolf" KSWF (3.7 share) on the current based side and Zimmer's own " Real Country 101.3 " KWTO-FM (4.3 share) and Mid-West Family Broadcasting's " 105.1 The Bull " KOMG-FM (2.0 share) on the Classic Country side. With Loud Media's sale of " 93.5 Lake-FM " WLGR Warrensburg/Glens Falls NY to Sticks Media breaking it off from simulcaster 1160 WSSV Mechanicville/93.3 W227DW Saratoga Springs, a rebrand is on the way at the latter. WSSV will become " 93.3 Fun-FM " with Loud registering FunFMRadio.com and 933FunFM.com . The station is already displaying its new brand online but has not changed on-air with the new branding matching co-owned " Fun 105.9 " WGAP Knoxville TN. Some changes don't happen for branding purposes, but rather for companies to protect servicemarks. That is the case in West Palm Beach where Alternative " 95.5 The Buzz " WLDI-HD2 Juno Beach is now branding as " Alt 95.5 " to keep the company's servicemark for the brand alive. When Audacy launched " Alt 101.9 " on WQMP Orlando in 2017 it was quickly forced to rebrand as " FM 101.9 " as iHeart began utilizing the " Alt " brand on 101.1 WJRR-HD3 Orlando in 2016. That brand was dropped last summer leaving no station in the state using the servicemark potentially opening it up for a competitor. Last month we reported on registrations made by Shaw Local Radio AC “ Sky 95.7 ” WSEY Oregon/Dixon IL hinting at a change to Rock with the registrations of 957Rocks.com , TheRock957.com , and 95-7TheRock.com . That move appears to be happening on July 1 as the station's call letters will change to WURX on that day. [/membership]
