Listen to the debut of 104.1 WABD at FormatChange.com.

The first hour of 104.1 WABD consisted of:

Dev – In The Dark
Flo Rida – Good Feeling
Usher – OMG
Adele – Set Fire To The Rain
Jason Derulo – In My Head
Katy Perry – The One Who Got Away

Selena Gomez & The Scene – Love You Like A Love Song
Bruno Mars – It Will Rain
Jessie J – Domino

Hot Chelle Rae – Tonight Tonight

Original Report 2/29: With 97.5 WABB-FM Mobile set to sign-off tonight as EMF Broadcasting’s “K-Love” takes over the frequency, Cumulus is preparing to take over the CHR vacancy.

Variety Hits “104.1 Jack-FM” WYOK Atmore has changed calls to WABD and is running teasers about a change coming at midnight tonight, which just happens to be the time WABB will be saying goodbye.

Cumulus has registered four domains for its new CHR outlet. 1041AllTheHits.com, 1041Hits.com, 1041HitsMusic.com, and 1041HitsRadio.com were all registered by Jeff Andrews, APD of WLS-FM Chicago under Cumulus VP Jan Jeffries.

WYOK had a previous run as CHR in competition with WABB as “Hot 104” from 2002 to 2006.

Can’t help but wonder if Cumulus bought the intellectual property of WABB and will become 104.1 WABB, with the WABD being a similar sounding place holder until the FCC approves a call sign transfer.

Don’t resurrect the station, please! Bring 104.1 to something different. Of course, make it sound local. Like a KRBE-Q100 type feel to it. All The Hits…Q104.1

I assume WABD is trying to make sure no one gets WABB for fear of being the second in with a confusing call letters. WABB-AM still exists, so no one can get it without the family approving the FM usage.

Originally there was both a 104 radio station that rivaled WABB. They got cut. That’s when Qtip worked there, and then he was out of a job, until he was picked up by WABB. Now they are back, or else someone is trying to come in and figures it’s the most opportune time!

They need to just transfer everything. It would be just like having new management… Shit if I won the lottery thats wat I’d do. And give them all pay raises. But we will see wat they do. Why not have the original DJs work there. It will slap them idiots that sold wabb in the face…

In the 1940’s and the first half of the 1950’s, WABD was the call sign for a TV station in New York; it meant Allen B. DuMont, the station’s founder (he also owned the DuMont electronics company and the DuMont TV network).

After DuMont went out of the TV network business, and he sold the broadcasting division, the calls became WNEW-TV and more recently, WNYW-TV (BTW, WNYW were once the call letters of a shortwave station called “Radio New York Worldwide”!)
