WHOK Columbus Moves To 107.1; 95.5 The Game Debuts

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
April 1, 2013

k95.5 k107 k107.1 Wink 107.1 WHOK-FM WNKK Lancaster Columbus CBS Sports Radio 95.5 The Game Zone Torg Scott TorgersonUpdate 4/1: Wilks has completed its Columbus restructuring.

Country “K95” WHOK-FM has slid down to 107.1 where it has flipped to Classic Country “K95 at 107.1” keeping the former brand alive. 95.5 takes on the long expected Sports format as “95.5 The Game” utilizing the CBS Sports Radio network.

Update 3/29: Add another possible brand for 95.5 as Wilks has added a registration for 955TheZone.com. Wilks has applied for new WZOH-FM call letters for the station.

Meanwhile Scott “Torg” Torgerson, the former afternoon co-host at “97.1 The Fan” WBNS-FM has tweeted about his possible involvement with the new station.

Fact: A new FM All Sports station is coming to Columbus very soon.Fact: The Torg is coming back on the air in Columbus soon. #torgisback

— the torg (@TheRealTheTorg) March 28, 2013

Torgerson was fired from WBNS last fall after tweeting death wishes at ESPN college football analyst Desmond Howard. He has since been hosting weekends and fill-ins at CBS’ “92.3 The Fan” WKRK Cleveland.

With 95.5 becoming WZOH-FM, the WHOK-FM calls will move to what will officially be branded as “K95 at 107.1“.

Original Report 3/26: For the past couple months we’ve been watching Wilks Broadcasting’s Columbus properties for one of their Country outlets to make a flip to Sports. That move will take place on Monday, April 1.

Country “K95.5” WHOK-FM Lancaster, OH has begun promoting on-air that it will relocate its programming to 107.1 WNKK Circleville on 4/1. That will displace fellow Country “Wink 107.1“. Both stations rimshot the Columbus market from the southeast, however the 21kW Class B signal of 95.5 reaches more of the market than the 3kW Class A signal of 107.1. “K95.5” features a broader library of currents and gold tracks compared to the current/recurrent intensive programming of “Wink 107.1“.

The move will make way for the long expected launch of CBS Sports Radio on 95.5. As we reported earlier this month, Wilks registered 955TheGameOnline.com for the station and it has appeared on the affiliate list of the network for a few weeks now.

The 95.5 signal is boosted by a downtown Columbus translator, W272AT which has recently begun testing at its new 94.1 facility.

In addition to WHOK-FM and WNKK, Wilks owns Classic Rock “QFM96” 96.3 WLVQ in the Columbus market.
