Update 8/31: The Original Company will flip Variety Hits “107.1 Jack-FM” WEJK to “Classic Hits 107.1” when it begins operating the station on Monday, September 1.
WEJK will fill the void created when Townsquare Media flipped 105.3 WJLT to Sports in July. Dave Westrich, who exited WJLT after the flip will join WEJK for afternoons. The Evansville Courier & Press reports the station will be jockless in all other dayparts for now, but feature hourly news updates from 6am to 12pm and at 4 and 5pm.
Original Report 8/18: The station left out of the Midwest Communications purchase of South Central Communications deal earlier this summer has found a new owner.
South Central subsidiary Boonville Broadcasting is selling Variety Hits “107.1 Jack-FM” WEJK Boonville/Evansville, IN to The Original Company for $350,000. The Original Company owns fifteen stations along the southern Illinois/Indiana border. The LMA of WEJK was grandfathered into South Central’s ownership cap, which was unable to be continued by Midwest. The Original Company will begin operating WEJK via Time Brokerage Agreement on September 1.
It is noticeable that WEJK’s coverage matches with TOC’s News/Talk 106.7 WYFX Mount Vernon. Combined the two stations would come close to having full market coverage of Evansville.
