Format Shuffle In Texarkana

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
January 16, 2015

107.1 The Fox KTFS-FM Talk 740 98.5 KTFS FreedomTexarkana Radio Center contacted us to clarify that the new “107.1 The Fox” KTFS-FM is a “very” Hot AC rather than CHR.

Texarkana Radio Center, owners of Texarkana’s #1 station KTOY, have now added a further format offering in the fast growing Texarkana TX/AR market. The new station KTFS-FM 107.1 has been broadcasting conservative talk and news with a simulcast on KTFS-AM and an FM metro wide translator on 98.5. Over the holidays Texarkana Radio Center moved to roll out a Hot AC format on the 107.1 frequency branding the station as THE FOX.

Conservative talk remains on KTFS-AM and on 98.5 FM after a 6 week promotion to make the switch from 107.1. THE FOX is 100% locally programmed format consulted to by Tracy Johnson Media who consult to the group’s Texarkana cluster.

Group CEO, Richard Burns, says “THE FOX has been in the pipeline since we purchase d the stations in March 2013 but we’d wanted to launch our Classic Hits format HITS 105 first, then our Hot Country station HOT FM and bed down the HOT FM Morning Crew show anchored by ex-LA and San Francisco morning man Dean Goss. The introduction of THE FOX completes what we see as a very solid and competitive station cluster in Texarkana.”

Station Manager Terry Thomas commenting on the market says, “We undertook an advertiser survey before we bought into the market and we saw a real need to develop a cluster for advertisers that offers a complete mainstream format cluster. We now have the powerhouse Urban AC KTOY, conservative talk on FM/AM, Hot Country on our 50,000 watt stick – HOT FM, our Classic Hits on HITS 105 and now, with the launch of THE FOX on 107.1, a very Hot AC to complete the picture. We’re very much a one stop shop for demographic coverage in the Texarkana region. No other group in Texarkana can offer 5 FM formats with the coverage we have and our team here is very excited and enthusiastic about working with direct clients and agencies to build successful campaigns to showcase the power of our stations.”

Original Report 1/15: Texarkana Radio Center ended 2014 with a shuffle of some of their properties.

Conservative Talk 740 KTFS Texarkana, TX and 107.1 KTFS-FM Texarkana, AR have broken their simulcast with the Talk programming remaining on 740 KTFS and adding translator 98.5 K253BO Texarkana, AR.

107.1 KTFS-FM has flipped to CHR “107.1 The Fox” Positioned as “Today’s Best Music”, The Fox is going head-to-head against Townsquare Media’s “Power 95.9” KPWW.
