Update 2/21: WGZO flipped to Variety Hits “SC 103” WVSC at 5pm today.
Using the familiar “We Play Everything” branding, the station is moving its focus from the whole Savannah/Hilton-Head market to just the South Carolina portion. The station’s airstaff remains intact with Jeff ‘T-Bone’ Taylor in mornings and Brad Wells in afternoons.
Original Report 2/19: Apex Broadcasting is slowly putting together a small cluster in the Hilton Head Island, SC portion of the Savannah, GA market.
Apex closed on its purchase of Classic Hits “103.1 The Drive” WGZO Parris Island from L&L Broadcasting. Amidst doing so, the station has changed its call letters to WVSC. Next up appears a rebranding and/or format change to “SC 103.1” as SC1031.com and SC103Radio.com were registered by the company.
Apex has also added two translators to its Hilton Head area holdings. They purchased 99.1 W256CB Beaufort from Edgewater Broadcasting in December for $35,000 and added 106.5 W293BZ Hilton Head from Augusta Radio Fellowship this week for $50,000. Both 80 watt translators will rebroadcast an HD subchannel of WVSC.
