As predicted on Monday, iHeartMedia flipped the stunting “Santa 100” WGSY Phenix City AL/Columbus GA to Urban today as “Hot 100“.
The new format goes up against soon to be former sister station “98.3 The Beat” WBFA, which led the market with a 8.9 share in the Spring 2017 Nielsen Audio ratings, Davis Broadcasting’s “Foxie 105” 104.9 WFXE, and PMB Broadcasting’s “Hip Hop 106.5” W293BV/WKCN-HD3.
In an interesting turn of events, WGSY (which has applied to change call letters to WHTY) has taken over the social media accounts and followers of WBFA. That station’s $1.1 million sale from iHeart’s Aloha Stations Trust to RCG Media was just granted by the FCC and should close shortly.
Meanwhile the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer blames iHeart for falling for the Christmas Music stunt as being the new permanent format.
iHeartMedia Columbus announced today the debut of the new Hot 100, C-Town’s Hottest Hip Hop & R&B, effective immediately. Hot 100 will broadcast the best in both modern and classic Hip Hop and R&B, including songs from artists like Migos, Cardi B, JAY-Z, Khalid, SZA and more. The station’s full programming lineup will be announced at a later date. Heritage station Sunny 100 will continue to broadcast AC music and programming on 94.7.
“We are excited to have a mainstream urban station back in our market,” said Derrick Greene, Senior Vice President of Programming. “Our expert team knows urban radio and what our local listeners want, and we can’t wait to bring them the best programming and music the format has to offer.”

The AC format has relocated to 1460 WHAL Phenix City/94.7 W234BX Highland Pines GA as “Sunny 94.7” replacing Classic Country “South 94.7 The Legend“. Out with the frequency change is the syndicated Murphy, Sam & Jodi morning show.
100.1 WGSY is currently stunting with Christmas Music as “Santa 100“. The local news media has fallen for the stunt as the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer is reporting the Christmas programming to be the new permanent format. As we will show in today’s Domain Insight report later today, iHeart has other plans for the frequency.
