After a few hours stunting with a loop of Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'”, Flinn Broadcasting has launched 1980s Hits “Z96.3” W242CS Memphis/WHBQ-HD2.
The new format replaces Alternative “I96” on the frequency.
Original Report 12:50pm: Flinn Broadcasting Alternative “I96” 96.3 W242CS Memphis is currently stunting with a loop of Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'”.
We had reported yesterday in Domain Insight that the company had registered Z963Memphis.com for the translator and since then social media accounts have popped-up describing the new station as “Totally 80s Hits”. A flip to 80s Hits will place the signal in competition with North Mississippi Media Group Classic Hits “97.7 Guess-FM” 1430 WOWW Germantown/97.7 W249BN Memphis (which are leased from Flinn) and 100.1 W261CE Southaven MS.
W242CS had been simulcasting with 96.1 WIVG Tunica MS until that station quietly flipped to a simulcast of “Sports 56” 560 WHBQ/87.7 WPGF-LP in June. We are unsure what station is serving as originating station for the translator.

Interesting logo… VERY reminiscent of the old Z104 (WNVZ-FM, Norfolk, VA) logo from the early to mid 80’s.
