With Christmas season over, Bold Broadcasting’s 104.7 WELJ Montauk NY flipped to Soft AC/Oldies at noon today.
Launching with Lionel Richie’s “Easy” and Bread’s “Make It With You”, the station is positioning itself as “Easy & Refreshing”. The new format gives an AC competitor to LRS Broadcasting’s 102.5 WBAZ Bridgehampton.
Original Report 11/2: Bold Broadcasting has closed on its purchase of Country “104.7 Nash Icon” WELJ Montauk NY/New London CT and has flipped the station to Christmas Music.
Keith Allen, former afternoon host at Connoisseur Media’s “B103” WBZO Bay Shore, has been named Program Director for WELJ. Allen states that the station will debut its permanent identity on December 26 at 12pm.
Bold Broadcasting acquired 104.7 WELJ from Cumulus Media’s Joule Broadcasting Trust in July for $197,000.

Judging by the logo, it’ll probably shift to Soft AC after Christmas, becoming a competitor to WBMW and WBAZ. Also, see that the “East End” here is referring to both Long Island east of the Hamptons, and the New London/Groton/Mystic area– the east end of the CT coast.
