Kirkman Broadcasting launched Classic Hits “92.1/102.1 The City” on 1450 WQNT Charleston SC and a pair of translators: 92.1 W221CI Summerville and 102.1 W271CP Charleston this morning.
The station is focusing on “The Greatest Hits Of The 60s, 70s, and 80s” and is launching with three on-air hosts. Jay Harper, who previously hosted a morning talk show on sister 1340 WQSC, moves to The City for mornings. Longtime Charleston personality Janet Walsh is hosting middays and Kirkman Broadcasting Production Director John Dixon will host afternoons.
The move restores Classic Hits to the Charleston market for the first time since sister 98.9 WWIK flipped to Sports in February 2013.
The move will also result in changes at Kirkman’s 1340 WQSC, which drops its Talk format, to pick up the Sports programming that had been on 1450 WQNT. WQSC has also launched translator 98.5 W253BW Charleston as the duo have rebranded as “98.5 The Zone“. The station’s lineup features Kyle Bailey and Jamie Bradford in mornings and then syndicated programming the rest of the day including Dan Patrick from 9am-12pm, Jim Rome 12-3pm, Paul Finebaum 3-7pm, and a mix of Fox Sports Radio and NBC Sports Radio in nights and weekends.
