Update 1/10: The “106.1 The Dove” micro-format ended at noon today as Cox Media debuted Urban “Power 106.1“. The station is launching commercial free with 10,000 songs in a row.
As explained below, the translator being fed by 96.9 WJGL-HD2 is being used to help Cox attempt to dislodge Clear Channel’s “93.3 The Beat” WJBT from the number one spot in the market.
Update 1/7: Is the Dove nothing more than a teaser micro-format? We’re told that the station is running the same songs on a loop. We were tipped off that Power1061.com, which was registered anonymously last August has since been joined by a blank Twitter account and a hidden Facebook page. Perhaps something to knock Clear Channel’s market leading Urban “93.3 The Beat” WJBT down a peg?
Original Report 12/31: Cox Media has used a translator to debut a new signal in Jacksonville.
106.1 W291CI has signed-on as Soft AC/Oldies “106.1 The Dove“, duplicating the format run by Cox on WDUV Tampa. The translator, owned by Victor M. Vickers is being fed by 96.9 WJGL-HD2 and operating with 225 watts at 300 meters from the downtown tower site of Cox’ 95.1 WAPE.
