With the retirement of “Rock 104.5” out of the way, Cox has given the 98.8kW signal of WFYV Atlantic Beach, FL to sister News/Talk 690/106.5 WOKV.
The midnight flip comes after a few days of stunting that teased five potential formats, none of which came to pass. Currently WOKV’s programming is airing on all three stations in the market, despite the new station logo only emphasizing 104.5.
WOKV was one of the first stations to begin the recent trend of simulcasting on FM in 2006, when Christian AC “106.5 The Promise” WBGB Ponte Vedra Beach was sold to Cox and became WOKV-FM.
In the March 2013 PPM monthly, WOKV place third in the market with a 6.5 share trailing only its Cox sister stations 95.1 WAPE and “96.9 The Eagle” WJGL. WOKV is the flagship station of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars and the local Jacksonville affiliate of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.
The next question becomes what does Cox do with 106.5? Perhaps something competing with Clear Channel’s Urban AC “V101.5” WSOL?
