In a move that usually doesn’t happen so close to the start of a season, the Atlanta Falcons will have a new FM home for the games in 2014.
CBS Sports “92.9 The Game” WZGC will replace Lincoln Financial Media Hot AC “Star 94” WSTR as the FM home for the team’s broadcasts starting with the team’s third preseason game on Saturday, August 23. Broadcasts will continue to originate at Lincoln Financial’s “ESPN 790 The Zone” WQXI.
The move follows WQXI dropping all local programming in favor of the national ESPN Radio lineup in May. The move will attempt to help reverse the fortunes for WZGC, which has yet to show much growth since its debut in October 2012. The Game registered a 0.9 share in the July 2014 Nielsen Audio PPM ratings. The station is also the flagship for the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks.
