Jonathon Brandmeier Joins WLS; Goes National With Westwood One

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
February 26, 2015

Jonathan Brandmeier Cumulus Westwood One WLS ChicagoLongtime Chicago and Phoenix morning personality Jonathan Brandmeier is launching a nationally syndicated 10am-1pm eastern syndicated Talk show with Westwood One.

To be based at Chicago’s 890 WLS where it will air live, the show will also air on 790 KABC Los Angeles, 570 KLIF Dallas, 860 KKAT Salt Lake City, 790 WPRV Providence, and 1050 KTBL Albuquerque at launch. Brandmeier was a longtime morning host at 97.9 WLUP and was most recently in mornings at Tribune Sports “87.7 The Game” WGWG-LP Chicago.

At WLS, Brandmeier will replace John Kass and Lauren Cohn in the late morning slot.

Westwood One today announced it has signed a partnership and syndication deal with popular Chicago radio personality Jonathon “Johnny B” Brandmeier that will bring his incomparable brand of talk radio back to Chicago and to listeners nationwide in March, 2015. The Jonathon Brandmeier Show will air live weekdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm ET on stations around the country, including WLS-AM Chicago, KABC-AM Los Angeles, KLIF-AM Dallas, KKAT-AM, Salt Lake City, WPRV-AM Providence, KTBL-AM Albuquerque, and many more.

The Jonathon Brandmeier Show is an entertaining, offbeat look at news, pop culture, and sports–from the big trending topics to the stories about to fall through the cracks–combined with celebrity interviews and free-wheeling audience interaction. The topical conversations seamlessly gel into three hours of dynamic and unpredictable radio. Brandmeier has amassed a legion of devoted fans and an army of awards and accolades that cement his powerful industry reputation, including multiple Billboard Magazine Radio Personality Awards, TALKERS “100 Most Important Radio Hosts in America,” and Gavin Report’s “Air Personality of the Year.”

John Dickey, Executive Vice President of Content and Programming for Cumulus, said “Jonathon is one of the most versatile performers in radio today, and we know audiences will enjoy his lively humor and take on each day’s topics. We’re thrilled to add Johnny B to the Westwood One roster of relevant and relatable talk programming.”

Adds Brandmeier, “This is extremely exciting for all of us at The Jonathon Brandmeier Show. We look forward to continuing to entertain audiences in Chicago and expanding our reach nationwide. Fasten your seat belts, it’s going to be a wild ride!”

About Jonathon Brandmeier
Jonathon Brandmeier has won radio’s coveted Marconi Award, multiple Billboard Magazine Radio Personality Awards and was named one of Talker’s Magazine’s “100 Most Important Radio Hosts in America”. His radio career began at age 15 in his hometown of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and before long his on air antics in Milwaukee created a buzz when a national radio talent search named Brandmeier one of the Top 5 Talents in the country alongside Howard Stern. From there Brandmeier went to mornings at KZZP in Phoenix. After quickly becoming a force in the Phoenix radio market, Brandmeier took over morning drive at WLUP/The Loop in Chicago and then dominated Chicago radio for several years until making a move to Afternoon Drive in Los Angeles. In 1998, CBS Radio simulcast Brandmeier in Chicago and Los Angeles. In 2005, Brandmeier returned to Chicago to host mornings on The Loop and, most recently, on WGN-AM.

The Chicago-specific statement that Mr. Feder posted includes one other, very important detail: Apparently, Dennis Miller is retiring from radio–and this show is the replacement.

In Chicago, absolutely nothing: Both that post from Mr. Feder and a separate story from the Tribune (at http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/breaking/ct-johnny-b-wls-am-0227-biz-20150226-story.html) say that the show will air on WLS from 9:00 to 11:00 (CT)–so the final hour locally may be delayed or preempted altogether.
