Update 4/29 2:15pm: After a jockless week promoting the launch of “103.7 The River” as Richmond’s new home for Alternative Rock, Cox has flipped “Y101” 100.9 WDYL to Rhythmic CHR “Hot 100.9” with new WHTI calls pending.
The station is launching jockless with the now-standard 10,000 songs commercial free gimmick. Hot 100.9 is positioned directly between Clear Channel’s pair of CHR “Q94” WRVQ and Urban “106.5 The Beat” WBTJ as well as Radio-One’s Urban “Power 92.1” WCDX.
Following the sign-off of Y101 with Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)”, Hot 100.9’s first hour consisted of:

Update 4/23 12:00am: There are a few more indications that a second flip is on the way in Richmond. “Y101” WDYL, which recently moved to 100.9 with a stronger signal into the market, has begun airing sweepers directing listeners to 103.7. Our friends at VARTV.com report that the station has dropped syndicated morning host Bubba The Love Sponge as well as hyping “The River” on their site.
Original Post 4/22 3:50pm: Cox Radio has flipped Hot AC “Mix 103.7” WMXB Richmond, VA to Adult Alternative “103.7 The River” at 3:00pm. Making the move more interesting is the existence of sister Alternative “Y101” WDYL. We’re expecting a flip there as well as Hot1009.com was registered by WMXB PD Fisher a few weeks back.
